So I got a new breather filter that runs from my catch can. I mounted it from the rear screw on the left air scoop. Heres a picture of the filter and holder. I will post another picture of it on the bike when I get home later.  It is a tad bigger than I thought it would be, but still looks pretty. just hope the breather hose doesnt rest against the heads, that will be the only problem I may see. This is a two piece deal, filter is separate, so the only thing holding it in the bracket is the hose and clamp. This will create room for tons of slop and vibrating. I fixed this by drilling a hole through the back of both and putting in a single stainless steel screw to hold the two together as one. Worked perfect. I love how it adds to the BLING! factor. | ||

Very Nice. Seeing as I will be changing my spark plugs soon, I will see how bad my intake is after 7.2k miles and whether I want to convert to a catch can/breather setup. (Message edited by SRWitt on January 21, 2009) | ||

Its nice to have. After you get one and see all the crap that it keeps out of your engine you'll wonder why they made the bike without one to begin with. I did see a catch can and filter in one that is close to the same price about 150.00 and is CHROME. There are a bunch of these out there though. Here's a picture of the other one I saw @ JP Clycles.  This one is 50 bucks at Dennis Kirk..just add a breather filter separate.  | ||

Would just have to add like a 45 degree upward "T" for the one above. Then run a breather filter off that. | ||

looks like that whole bottom bowl might unscrew from the top half. just a guess though. | ||

I believe it just unscrews from were that line is 1/3 the way down. Just have to empty it like every 3 to 4 tanks I would think. | ||

Just found the same one as above for 44.95 at Cycle Parts USA. I just search the net typing "Harley catch can", "Harley catch tank" or "Harley breather"...just takes some searching, but you'll find a world of them out there. It just take a little imagination, but you can sub. so many parts out there with small changes to them. ie points covers, headlights, chrome screws, etc. I was going crazy trying to find little details for my bike at the Buell specific stores... I started sub. parts out and have never had a problem, just check on sizes and stuff by giving most of these guys a call. | ||

Nice! That is pretty cool. I have a picture of my bike but have to wait until my wife tells me were she left the stupid cable. I used braided hosing on mine by the way, to help with the engine heat on the hose. | ||

I just hit Home Depot and bought an air compressor petcock. I have it sitting in the hole of the chin spoiler like you see on Moose's bike there. My filter is mounted where he mounted his can. That is not my bike, I just found it on the internet. I still have my breathers in the airbox, but I think i'm going to move them today. | ||

So here is my set up..I tried to take the best pictures possible but you know how cells can be.   Like I said, not the best pictures but gives you an idea. I used braided stainless hosing to clean things up and help with the engine heat on the hose. | ||

That breather is bigger than I thought Zoedogg. I added a catch can today (ford friction modifier bottle, about 4 inches long and 2 inch diameter). I put the T right behind the fan and the bottle behind the frame down by the swing arm. Ran the breather tube off that T and up over the rear shock to the other side where the Trans breather tube is at. I didn't get a filter yet, but I didn't get any oil to come out of the tube. Plenty of air is pumping out, but no liquid. I may just leave it with no filter, we'll see. | ||

I have never gotten a lot of oil in the airbox, but there is always some residue inside the airbox on top and bottom. I don't like the idea of it just landing on the road somewhere. There's already to many vehicles leaking oil out there. The filter may not be necessary, but I think some kind of container to collect the little bit of oil is called for. All I did was drill a 1/2 inch hole into a plastic bottle top. I'll probably replace that with a short piece of black pvc pipe with a cap on each end. | ||

You should have a filter on the breather hose. It "Breathes"... other wise is would just be called a blow hole or something. The reason for the filter is because it also sucks air inward from what I understand when the pistons travel up and down. It short in keeps crap from getting sucked in. Granted the chances of that are slim, but not a risk Im willing to take. Yeah, the breather filter is larger than I thought it would be also, in fact the first thing I said when I opened my long awaited package was "OH S*it thats big"! But the more I look at it the easier it is to look at and admire for me..(Oooo..shiny) | ||

The pic that Moosestang put up is my previous bike. If you look at the pic you can see that I used the same mounting hardware for the catch can as the oil cooler. That little catch can is pretty good but the price has since gone up. You are hard pressed to find it for less than 50 bucks (too much IMO). Also if you look closely at the pic posted by Zoedogg1 you will notice that the catch can is vented toward the top just in front of the bolt. The bottom does unscrew and the base has an allen head. I ended up doing away with the foam and running a green scrub pad. The reason for the pad or foam is to prevent oil mist escaping through the vent when you run hard for a long period of time. btw here is link to the part #'s and info: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/181083.html |
