Skully,

Interesting question,
Same as the question ;
Is my home made filter set-up ( no box , only a plate holding the filter ) going to improve flow if I try to copy the dent towards the velo. stack from the 12 box onto my plate ??

Food for thoughts

Just wondering
I guess I’ll find out when my baby is back to getter again,
After a day @ the dyno , setting up the beast

Bud,
I could measure up that little cone if you want to make one for your home made lid.

Brion, do you need someone to test at altitude? I go over an 1,000 foot hill everyday. End of February or the 1st of March I could test it to about 10,000 feet.

Could someone explain for me.... I got a quote from discountbiker as mentioned before, quoting the part number P0215.1AA - I am very happy with the price (like anyone else sourcing from here). But I asked whether they had the part in yellow, and I was told "I don't know whether it comes in yellow". This is the plastic part which sits between me and the handlebars, pretending to be a fuel tank isn't it????? Surely they'd know colours available if they are selling them????? Or do I have the wrong end of the stick????

Cheers Buckinfubba - I guess if I was a little more curious I'd have lifted it off and taken a look! So the choice is any colour as long as its black then! Will have to get my order in now - anything for more HP........

I installed the XB12 airbox cover today. It was a snap (actually 6 snaps and 4 Torx27 screws :]).
XB9 and XB12 airbox covers - outside

XB9 and XB12 airbox covers - inside

closeup of the cone

It fits snugly on the air filter

Prof: Is this the only mod you've made to your bike? I'm curious about how you feel about it.

Glitch, this is the second mod I've made to my bike. The Rich's Custom Upholstery seat was the first and it sure makes the XB more comfortable!

Okay, you meant mod to the motor... Yeah, I've avoided costly upgrades and besides, I don't like loud pipes anymore. Gotta preserve my 50+ year old ears, you know! Loved 'em in my youth, though.

I took the XB for a short ride after putting on the new airbox. SOTP dyno says that the bike has a little more snap when the throttle is opened. But I hope to get out today for a longer ride to get a better idea of it.

But just looking at the cone (venturi tube?) on the picture above says that it HAS to be directing the air into the (stock) velocity stack in a more efficient manner. Otherwise, why would Buell have changed the design for the XB12's?

Prof (time to start Xmas shopping...)

Dont the Buell racers use a metal velocity stack?I recon Buell figured it was a metal velocity stack or this and an ABS mold is cheaper beans. Both mods report similar figures and oldman said he noticed no difference when he added the 12 lid to his Velocity stacked 9 except the noise.

Still like to try it though.

Anyone have a photo of the snorkel that gets removed as part of this mod?

Is it really this simple... remove snorkel, replace cover w/ P0215.1AA and get more hp and torque?
