Did you have to enlarge the holes on the faring or just removed the black plastic and they fit right in?

you have to enlarge the holes in the fairing.
My thought was to paint the recessed area black to give it the same look as the black plastic pieces.

Did you paint the recessed area around the headlights? If so, what is the color code or paint brand you used? I think it looks alot better that way than the matte black.

Bud, to center the Hella 90mm headlamps the same as the stock headlamps, you will have to remove all the old adjusters (even the stationary ones) and drill new adjuster holes. The offset, using the centerline of the stationary adjusters, is 2.5mm up, and 5.5mm outboard. The adjuster holes are symmetrical, 85mm apart. It's critical to get them mounted square and level. I used an epoxy to build up on the headlight mounting bracket (both sides) where the new holes locate.

looks like shit......

LOL, I have to agree, not very artistic...but functional.
I wasn't worried about looks, no one will see it under the fairing. Cutting the holes larger in the faring to make it look good is the tricky part.

I have a question, how did you manage to enlarge the holes so exactly in the faring 1/4 of an inch? One other thing, you didn't mention the wiring, how was modifiying that part?

I made a 3 3/4" circle template and marked it on the inside of the faring. Then used a utility razor knife to skim away at the plastic. The key is to take your time and just skim it away slowly, don't try to take off a large amount of plastic at a time. And just work with the tip of the razor.

You need to get two H9 bulb connectors, they sell them as a kit with wire seals. Just cut off the original spade connectors and solder on the H9 connectors. You can see them in the underside picture in my previous post.

XB9: I hate the brightness of my headlights also; don’t feel that they do the job. Being the cheapskate that I am, and was to attempt this would this be the ideal way?
1. Get an spare headlight box. Price unknown, but I estimate around $35.00
2. Hella Lights $57 each
3. H9 wiring kit Price??

By the way, do you want to get rid of that salvage faring?

the H9 connector kits (2) will run you $12.
I was looking at replacing the stock headlights for around $90, but you end up with the same POC.
This upgrade cost me $135. $45 extra and some time is well worth the improvement. When that reflector coating starts going away it gets bad, problem is it's gradual until you realize it's really bad. If you do much night riding, you can never get enough light.

Never did say anything about getting rid of the salvage faring. You have talked me into upgrading my lights. I took out the low beam reflector and I really don't know if it was an improvement.

I ride a fair amount at night, and I can tell you do too. That is why we are complaining about the lights. Not many complaints from the XB/S’s though.

I just had the piaa super white bulb go out. Had it a whopping 6 days!!! This sucks. I would like to do that upgrade you guys are designing, just not to hip with the drilling new holes and epoxying them up and all. But this lighting does suck. Damn what to do???

Well the weather broke here today, it was in the 40's so I went riding this evening to try the headlights out and aim them. All I can say is WOW, what an improvement over the stock units. Anyone going with these Hella units will not be disappointed.

How large are the stock headlights? The Hellas are 90mm correct?
