I've actually worked ON that bike.

Yep - it is an RR motor and yep - you need access to a dyno if you are going to be racing it in different conditions but it can be bought for less than a new RR motor.

Not for the faint of heart and in answer to the next question:

NO - It can't be licensed for the street - and if you put that motor into a street chassis, every state that I know of will impound it if you get pulled over - unless it is registered as a "custom" or some such... and not many states are that forgiving on registration.

Going to the DMV with only a bill of sale with NO VIN is always iffy.

Just my $0.02 (devalued for inflation)

But all that being said, it IS an RR-motored racebike and was going to be their B bike for an RR that just never was bought because the 1125R came out.

It would be very interesting to see if it'd be possible to de-tune that thing into a decent street motor. It may be that the valves and ports are so huge you just couldn't get it to perform at street speeds. Still, it'd be fun to try.

BTW- Do cops really check that the engine matches the VIN for routine traffic stops?

On that bike it would probably never be a routine traffic stop.

Good luck filling it up! I know more stations that sell hydrogen than leaded race fuel.

Looks to me like it's a either an XBRR with all the good suspension, and some body parts and wheels robbed, or it's a regular XB with RR motor, fairing, and wiring.

Either way it's pretty enough.

John, you're right. It's an XB12 with an RR motor. XB wheels and suspension.

Well, an XB12 frame has all you'd need to make it street-legal in Missouri. All they care about is a VIN.

I've seen V8 trikes registered as YZF600R's because all you need is a VIN with a good title.

I'd bet you could de-tune it (compression ratio back down to 10.5:1) - possibly even do some clever work with an older ECM, a wiring harness change and ECMSpy (ask Easyrider - Dris - at http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl), he's worked the RR and ECMSpy and could tell you what might work)

AS it sits, you're committed to 114 octane leaded fuel.

If you could get it registered, you'd be the ONLY kid on your block to have one!!

that was the main push behind what i was looking into! there were some ways to make the engine more streetable, but i decided that the reason i would be buying it was for the motor. then to take and detune the motor so i could ride it on the street kind of defeated the purpose: (

there is always the option of having a huge barrel of fuel sitting in my garage, but im not to sure about that either.

maybe some day...

Every XBRR I've dealt didn't have a crank that would last long on the street.

Now that I think about it, E85 has an octane rating of 105, so you possibly could get away with tuning for that instead.

Well, how would you go about detuning it to make it streetable? I mean it's got ~150 HP in "stock" trim, so you could knock 25 or 30 HP off of it and still have one seriously stout Buell. I'd say drop the compression to something more reasonable (new or machined pistons) and install milder cams. Those big-ass throttle bodies might have to go in favor of something smaller to provide decent low speed throttle response. Surely the crank would be fine if you dropped the rev limit to ~8000 RPM or so.

Hughlysses, if you were gonna do all that, you could buy an 1125R, keep all that power, be 100% street legal, have $ in Tha Bank, run any fuel in America, and get a two-year-warranty, to boot.

It's a dead bike.

John- Oh, I agree it would be largely a big waste of money and you still probably wouldn't have an engine the equal of the Helicon. OTOH you could drop it right in a Uly.
