Hey their.

I currently ride a 2007 V-Strom 650cc but have always been a fan of buells.

I am finding although my strom works for everything i ask it just does not offer much in the way of character. I also want to go back to having a BARE bones bike with no fairing or even windshield.

So i am looking to trade it in on a new bike.

One of the bikes i am looking at is the Buell XB12Ss. I have taken a test ride on one and i loved everything about the bike EXCEPT the foot peg placement and was wondering if pegs from the Uly could be used instead to lower the pegs and bring em forward a bit for comfort. IF that works i am pretty much set on getting one as my next bike.

Why not just get the XB12XT?

I have a SS and i love it. Foot pegs and all. Jaimec makes a very good point. have you looked at them? there nice bikes I looked at them first but they are too tall for me. (I'm vertically challenged)

The XT didn't seem much taller than my Ss. If he doesn't like the bags and windscreen he can always take them off. But if he ever wants to take a long trip, he has the option of using them. That isn't even an option with the Ss (unfortunately).

Remember, I was referring to the XT, not the X.

Curious. I just sold my DL1000 and bought a XB12Ss! I too test road the Buell and then got back on my V-Strom and felt strange. However, I wanted the Buell bad and after riding it for a couple of weeks, I forgot all about the Strom!.....lol. Unless you're married to the relaxed riding position of the V-Strom, you will get used to Buell very quickly. After all, it is much more comfortable than a true sport bike with clip on bars. When I get off my wifes XB12Scg, the Ss feels like a Cadillac....lol.

Also to note, the 2009 SS has the same suspension as the 2008 STT. The new suspension is a little taller. Take that into consideration, especially if you are looking at 2006-2008 SS or STT.

and was wondering if pegs from the Uly could be used

YES,

the uly peg brackets can be swapped. i've seen it done here a few times, and it really cleans up the tail section, cuz the passenger arm can go away. it also lowers, and moves froward the pass pegs. u might have to do some modding with the brake lines, and i know the ulys have a different engine casing to accommodate a lowered shifter arm mount. i could go on, but i'd only be guessing.
welcome to the addiction

I originally was looking at a XB12XT but i just do not want to spend $3000 more for stuff I do not use. BUT i think i going take both out for test rides again as these two bikes and a Yamaha FZ6 are basically the bikes i am looking at to replace the strom.

When i bought my strom i got it with the hard luggage and then added a bunch of other accessories thinking i was going to jump right into motorcycle touring. BUT turns out i don't get the time off from work to do much touring and what little time i can get soft bags work fine and a lack of wind shield encourages more stops (Witch is something i always regret when i go on a trip i never stop i am always pushing on for no apparent reason).
