Is it cost-effective to convert a Firebolt to Lightning handlebars? Will the wiring/control cables, etc. reach OK? I found a nice Firebolt for sale but I can't ride in that position comfortably. My hands and wrists get numb after 5 mins.. The more upright Lightning bars work better.

Besides the bars, I think you'll have to swap foot pegs to get a more upright position. I believe I read that the clutch cable for the R is shorter than an S.

Try Buell Traction Grips. Made a big difference for my hands.

There's also the need to relocate keyswitch as well I believe.

American Sport Bike is currently closed (until July 7th) so I can't look on its site but I believe there's a Superbar kit that includes a top triple and bars that are much like the S bars and it has provisions for the switch too I believe.

Another great option for a Firebolt is Helibars. They move the grips 1" up and 1.5" back. It doesn't seem like a lot but that little bit greatly improves comfort according to what all who have installed them say.

Its not as easy as just swapping the handlebars out. The master cylinder will not clear the Bolt fairing, you will need to relocate the Bolt ignition and more. Do a search in the KV for more info.

Heli bars would be the option of choice, it consists of a new billet aluminum top triple clamp with the higher, more rearward bars.
It also solves the issues with the ignition switch and lock and will clear the fairing.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

The Helibars work really well on a Firebolt. I was getting numb in the mounts of the thumbs before I put them on. I kept thinking it was grips, but grips didn't make a difference. I think that a Lightning triple clamp would look strange on a Firebolt. With the Helibars you are up more but it is still a sport bike riding position.
