i have just had installed on my 04 12r a rear suspension tuned by trackside eng. ,a new set of wheels with all new bearins springs clips ect. a chain conversion , with new tires and i seem to have a shake at certain unpredictable times under hard throttle i can rol in or out and the shake will go away cant put a fingre on it Any suggestions??????????

Tire mounted in right direction? Balanced properly? Torqued properly? Just an idea to start with

has trackside eng. ridden the bike since you noticed the shake. might be a good place to start(of course they only have 3 days to sort it out).
front and rear sproket bolt's torque (shims?).

Boy, that is a pretty complicated one, as there are so many variables. Every new item could contribute. I really hesitate to make a suggestion.

However, if the shake occurs at random times, as a result of acceleration, I would rule out, just preliminarily, those things that normally lead to shake at a specific speed, namely wheel balance.

Shake under acceleration, (assuming everything is tight and straight), normally suggests instability, caused by reduced trail . This can occur by fitting a larger rear tire, but normally is the result of the attitude of the bike being too high in the back, or too low in front, or both.

As you have upgraded the suspension, (excellent idea), I suspect that the standard Buell settings may no longer be relevant.

I would start by making sure everything is tightened properly, and that the tires are mounted properly and seated well. Are they new tires? A defective tire could be the culprit.

Then I would adjust the sag by measurement, not by preload clicks. I would check with Ed Kwaterski of Trackside to see what he recommends. I wouldn't be surprised if it were something like 35mm front, 32 mm rear. Ask Ed for his damping starting points. Could be something like 1 turn out on all screws as a starter.

all preload adjustments front and rear are set to ed's suggestions,and you r correct gj that it does not feel like it is comming from the wheel or tire

mike trackside is located in Wi. not likely ed will be able to ride and even more in the next three days..

bike does not feel unstable or unsafe just shaking or shimmy i figure i will bring it down and hopefully some of the buell gurus showing up may be able to help out

Pick the bike up off the ground, check for loose bearings, make sure they look to be "seated" correctly. check axle and make sure it also is tight and the pinch bolt is tight.

Were the wheels balanced with everything attached to the rim(bearings/tires/sprocket/rotor)

While the bike is in the air rotate the tire and see if it is lined up correctly.
The spacer on the front sprocket was used correct? If you have a piece of straight steel it can also be used for straightness.

Run the bike through the gears (off the ground of course...CAREFULLY!!) and see if you hear/see anything. You may need to sit on it and "load" the suspension to get the bike to flutter/shimmy....

I hope you DIDN"T bring it to a harley shop for this...That COULD be the problem

Just some thoughts, and stuff I may check.

Well, since you had to change the bike to fit a chain, it seems to me to be the first place to check.
