On review, I just remembered seeing an aluminum belt guard that Trojan-Horse has on their new items page.

Sorry about the previous omission Matt! I knew it sounded like a good idea ;)

Yup I have that belt guard on my bike. It is from Rizoma. Unfortunately they only offer the top and not the bottom.

Is it as solidly built as they claim? (3mm thick)

Brian, Chain actually had four rivets come loose. Still waiting for replacement. Nothing came in contact with the seat or anywhere other than the lower swingarm where the chain bunched up and locked up the rear tire. One hell of a ride.

Blake, my username is neither confusing,or harmful to anyone on this forum. it has been that way for the better part of two years. Anyone who is curious of my identity can click on the name and view my profile just as they could do with yours. It is ironic how Diablobrian who has close to 5000 posts here would be so confused??? id imagine he knows this board inside and out. Again im not here to cause trouble, and most of the people who I communicate with on this forum (including Court) have no problem with my clever choice of username.
Thank you for your concern.

I have to agree with Seth on this one. Just because it is spelled very similar to another word doesn't warrant creating a new user name. Otherwise there are probably quite a few others on this board that should change their name also. Kind of suprised me that for how detail oriented this group is more people didn't catch the spelling difference. I actually got a good laugh out of it.

Thansesxb9r,brineusof,and Aussie Buell, Thanks for the support.

Aussie, choosing a chain conversion or an upgraded 04-later belt/pulley should be based specifically on your riding habits and intentions. If you are a rider who does multiple track days or race weekends per year with your street bike and are concerned with having the best possible gear ratio for tracks of different layouts, go with the chain. If you are primarily a street rider with the occasional track day thrown in, stick with the upgraded belt. The belts are plenty strong for repeated track use. The habitual track day rider will appreciate the taller gear options on the tracks with the very long straits. FWIW I did 12or13 track days and a race weekend last season with the belt on a 05 12R. no issues. The bike is now a dedicated race bike and has a chain conversion kit from Grandstand Designs. They have by far the best kit on the market.

My apologies, thread de-hijacked and rolling.

Seth (Annonymouss),

I hear the disagreement expressed here by you and a few others concerning my polite request that you please choose another username, one not so easily confused with another, especially "Anonymous." I've reconsidered thoughtfully the issue. I feel strongly that my request remains valid and a very simple/easy one to honor, not much of a bother or imposition at all. I certainly don't understand the resistance to such a simple and polite request. I'm politely asking for just a little understanding and just a little cooperation.

I'm not sure why anyone who enjoys BadWeB would be unwilling to honor a simple, polite request by any of the folks who invest their valuable personal time maintaining the place.

I disagree that adding an additional letter "s" to "Anonymous" qualifies as "clever."

We all appreciate your contributions here. Please just choose another username.

Brine,

I really didn't intend to light this fire.

I didn't spot the double "s" on the end of the name.

It was an honest mistake and I just asked what I thought was a fairly obvious question.

I'm newly registered here, but I've been reading posts and learning since mid-August, so bear with me.

On my computer screen, when a person posts anonamously, their name appears in black font and is not underscored .

On a "signed in" post the posters name is a "hyperlink" which is underscored and blue in color. If I click on this "hyperlinked" name it takes me to the persons profile.

In the case of Seth, his username is both spelled differently AND "hyperlinked" to a valid profile.

Furthermore, he has been registered and posting with that username for nearly 2 years! If his choice of names was a problem, shouldn't it have addressed at the time of registration or shortly thereafter?

Why bust his balls now? And his posts seem polite, positive, and helpfull. Where is the problem?

"Busting balls"??? Currently the only balls being busted here are mine. I made a very polite and very simple request. me!

You are 100% right. I should have asked him to choose a new username from the start. I didn't. My bad! I'm now correcting that mistake.

Aussie,

You may be "some fun." ;) I know you didn't mean any harm. However, the integrity of the "Post as 'Anonymous' " feature must be strictly enforced. In order to ensure the continued integrity of the feature, we must insist that all who use it have a valid serious reason for doing so.

Thanks for understanding.

"lets get back to orginal topic!! I love my chain I know I will get back home!!982 mile trip a couple of weeks ago"

Yeah, I've been reading all of these chain related threads closely. I lost a belt this past summer on my 05 lightning when I rode off of a side walk.

I know... I know , what were you doing on a sidewalk? Well, I got impatient while stuck behind a car that was taking far too long to turn left, so I saw that the sidewalk to my right had one of those "cutouts" in it for wheelchairs I guess. So I shot right up onto the sidewalk, around the car, and then hopped off the curb and back onto the roadway.

As soon as my rear tire contacted the road it snapped & shot the belt right out.
It was a real clean break too, looks like it could have been done with a knife or something. No cords or thread hanging out at all. It scared me how fragile this thing is! I was probably only going 5-10 mph and I'm sure that I didn't rev it while airborn. I've hopped so many times while riding trailbikes that it seemed only normal that the bike would do it.

My Buell is my second bike, so I've just been riding my sportster this fall. Ive got 9000 miles on the buell, so it probably was due for a belt soon anyway. I'm not sure if I want to put a 06 style belt on there, or go with chain.

I'll make up my mind this winter, I've got plans for a few other mods as well.

Got belt guards?

How do you explain people having 60,000+ miles on their belts?

Nothing wrong with chains, other than they are filthy and heavy and need adjustment and oiling. Oh yeah and they're expensive.

But all that is a normal part of motorcycle ownership. I've never considered converting a chain drive to a belt. I will say that I prefer either shaft or belt drive over a chain any day.

Idle threats are par for the course here, Kyle. I'm over it. I spend most of my time elsewhere now. My visits to mustard city are brief these days.

Got belt guards?

Yeah it's totally stock.

How do you explain people having 60,000+ miles on their belts?

I don't know, lucky I guess. I wish I had that luck.

Nothing wrong with chains, other than they are filthy and heavy and need adjustment and oiling. Oh yeah and they're expensive.

All my other bikes that I've owned had chains, so I'm used to the lube & adjust aspect. I've actually never had a chain break on me though, and I'm not seeing how $167 for a new belt is any cheaper.

Idle threats are par for the course here,

Yeah that does put me off a bit about this place. Sometimes it has a
"if you don't play my way, I'll take my toys and go home, then no one will play" feel to it.

You couldn't be more inaccurate. But where was any threat made here? : ?

Please read what Mark said. To that I'd add that anyone who wants to post on BadWeB and badmouth the place is not welcome here. Frankly I have no idea to what your strange behavior is owing.

Gary,
As easy as it is to change the belt on the XB's, I'd go with the upgraded belt. What happened to your belt shouldn't happen, not at 9K miles not at 30K miles. Sorry if that is stating the obvious. Anyway, that's my 2 pennies worth. I like the belt. : )
