The exhaust is a D&D. I honestly don't know what they are selling for these days. That one is about three years old.

The belly pan from Buell (pictured above) is constructed from epoxy/fiberglass and is very well made. It does take a bit of work to make it fit. Let me know if you have any questions.

I guarantee there is a brightness difference, especially off axis. The quality of the LEDs used in the two are quite a bit different. The old style 5mm two lead LEDs used in the clear alternatives boards have a narrow view angle, brightness falls off rapidly as you go off axis. The Heavycycles board uses high quality automotive grade 4 lead LEDs that are both brighter and have a much wider angle brightness cone.

But there are other quality issues. I haven't dissected a clear alternatives board, so I won't swear to it, they don't appear to have plated through holes. And the actual LEDs in the Clear Alternatives boards have two lead mounting with tall aspect ratio bodies, as opposed to the short squat 4 lead style mounting used by the Heavy cycle boards. Both of these things have substantial impact on vibration and shock ruggedization of the circuit card assembly (my previous life was electronics packaging).

Quality costs. I can certainly understand why one would buy the Clear alternative boards, the Heavy cycles board is not cheap. I'm a clear alternatives dealer, primarily for the clear lenses. But I choose to market the HeavyCycles circuit cards because the quality and performance is there. I haven't had a return on a single one.

The heavycycle board also has downfiring Clear LEDs for License plate illumination. Those are the 5mm style and do that job well.

Some pictures are below. It is about impossible to take pictures of these things well, the lights overload the CCD imager and they saturate, skewing the colors from Red to Yellow and losing the brightness differences. In real life, the brightness differences are even more dramatic than I can capture in these pictures. I'm still seeing spots. The angles are approximate.

A couple changes have been made ont he Heavycycles board since this post. The turn signal LEDs went from 7 of the same type that were for the brake/tail light, to 5 EXTREMELY bright larger LEDs. The 5 LEDs are brighter than the 7 old ones, which were pretty darned bright to begin with.

The down firing LP illumination LEDs also changed from the 5mm type used on the Clear alternatives board to a low profile flat type that is brighter.

Also, the power regulation has been moved to a daughterboard mounted on the back side with a big heat sink. The design should increase reliability, not that there was any reliability problem to begin with. We've never had a return on one.

Some more cool info:
I'd mentioned earlier that the turn signal LEDs had been revised. The old ones looked like this:

Disregard the colors. The brake lights are VERY red and VERY bright in person, but they are so bright that they saturate the camera CCD imager and skew the hue very yellow. The new turn Signal LEDs are even brighter.

One customer had us put red LEDs where the turn signals are, and hooked those turn signal LEDs only up to a brake light modulator. The effect is very cool, and can be seen here:

That eventful day in hail on Mount Evans and the I-70 mudslide that I was caught up in afterwards is the only motorcycle wreck I've had since 1979. I hope to not have a repeat of it any time soon. I like adventure, but that one was a bit much.

We did, however, hit hail on the way to the American Sport Bike BBQ last year, and one of our guys went down FAST. It is my rule from now on, when there is hail on the road, I pull over and wait it out. It is better to be on the side of the road getting pelted by hail with a perfectly good bike than to be on the side of the road getting pelted by hail while picking up the broken pieces of your motorscooter.
