thanks Steve_mackay, those are a good deal. Only one problem, they dont have any that would fit me without being HUGE around the waist, i have a 38(maybe 36 if they are big enough) inch inseam, and a 32 inch waist. Do you know if you can special order a certain size that would fit? Thanks again for all the support: )

I got my suit (2-piece Firstgear speed freak) from newenough.com last year for
less than $500 and they even threw in a pair of tourmaster C-F armored gauntlets
on the deal.

There are very good deals on good gear out there if you are willing to shop around, and
don't mind last year's styles. Buying in the "off season" can also net you some deals.

Oh you know it was fun : D. I just dont want it to happen again. I guess if he came in there looking for the price of the fairing support, my old one couldnt get welded. By the way, do you remember the price of the fairing, even though it might be awhile before i can get one, due to almost a week out of work : (.

That would be soo cool if i could get bike insurance that was a decent price, cause what i was paying was TOO much.

Juniorkirk - check out First Gear Overpants. You order them the size jeans/pants you usually wear. They are meant to wear with pants under them. They also come with a liner if I'm not mistaken. They come in short, average and tall. My husband has a 29" inseam, so we had the opposite problem. He went down last November when he hit a patch of ice. The pants and First Gear coat held up well.

Hope your leg is healing well.

he was just checking for now still waiting on the out come of fixing it. there are ways to MAKE it work, but also remember it is a brand new bike. how much do you really want to patch on something new.

oh, and by the way, maybe try a set of scorpion syncs. they should do better in the wet weather for you.

Magnesium is tough to weld.

In the machine shop I worked in we had an old VW mechanic nearby that had a lot of
experience with it that we would have do our welding.

Something to try if you come up dry at the local welding shops. Is there a VW (bug)
specialist in your neighborhood?

My dad came home tonight with the fairing mount welded. He knocked on my door and said "what are you doing, your mount has been home for 30 seconds and your still not putting your bike back together?" After him saying that i was in the garage for a few hours putting everything back on (a lot of the time was wrestling with a few stubborn bolts and washers that didnt want to stay in place. But my bike is finally back together and ready to ride. I'm just waiting for my knee to heal up, and as after some physical therapy, i should be able to bent my leg that much to get it back on the peg. But by the looks of it, I'm probably done for this season, too bad : (. As soon as spring rolls around next year though, you wont be getting me off that bike, my goal is 20k miles next year.

Keep a positive attitude! There is still enough riding season for you to get back on the bike.
Especially if this winter is as mild as last winter was ;)

Set a goal to recover and get back on your bike before riding season ends!
It's attainable. I'll root you on!

junior ..

what did they weld mag w/ .. mag wire?

i think its the shielding gas type that cld be the problem .. or was it brazed .. cast materials norally have to be slowlt heated at low heat for a longtime until all nicely baked & THEN cn be brazed (braze seeps into porous material & creates penetration (if welding school memory serves?).

nice hole in knee, btw.

i have hit mine 3 times .. once on track in 1 pc. leathers (not cuts, only massive swelling & bruising)

twice on street - once w/ jeans over track pants (after gym) & once w/ dickies pants over track pants (before gym).

lesson in all of this - avoid the gym! ;)

both occasions .. knees severely swollen for a few months, very painful for a longtime & after xraying, no breaks ..

water on the knee, is the laymans term for it. cycling seems to improve it.

get some facking leather or at least ballistic, CE kneepadded, pants (euro biker style) joe rocket, alpinestars, dainese, etc ..

stay away from jeans w/ kevlar - sure they'll last light scrapes, but the IMPACT will hurt yr knees & maybe tear the stitching.

i have iicon *strongarm* denim, but i do NOT feel safe in them .. having much experience in smashing knees, i think i can speak w/ a little authority here.

also, DO track time - doesn't have to be competitve, just get better extreme bike control.

ride a LOT in rain .. i mean a LOT .. its a confidence thing & those armoured ballistic pants will be waterproofed too - most likely, & one thing an xb & rain equals, is wet feet, shins & knees (they get cold quick & ache, so denim gets another NO, NO!!

heal up & ride.

paul.

FWIW, I've repaired the bracket on my racebike with JB weld twice in two different spots, no problem.

Hey Jr, Glad to hear you are going to be ok. I know how it is to be out of commission for long periods too. I have had three surgeries on my Right shoulder now. My 04 12R only has 2200 miles on it now. I am finally back on the bike again. Yes, large wounds like that have to heal from the inside out. I was a medic in the Army. Gun shot wounds are like that. Get healed up first. You will have plenty of time to ride.

My bike is finally all back together and in one piece: ). I even had time to take the air box off and four more intake slots on the left side, so now both sides are matching, plus twice the air. Looks pretty cool, now i just need to send my pipe in and get it redone by Drummer, I've been reading up on them, and they seem like the way to go. Then get my ECM remapped, and i'll be ready to go. I have one question about getting my ECM remapped, how much will it affect my gas mileage. I have seen all the charts with the crap load of horsepower gain, but i was just wondering how bad of a hit does my 50 MPG would take?

Alright, since i am going to be off my bike for awhile, ive been thinking of things i can do to it before riding season next year. My bike is the '06 12R, trust blue, all stock. but i am thinking of putting the cherry bomb red rims from the '07's, and the red windshield. I was thinking it would be a cool idea, and took a little time on the Paint program and came up with a rough concept of what it will look like. Just wanted to see what all of you think of my crazy idea.

I would also take any suggestions to make it look more "unique", and stick out more in a crowd(not saying it doesnt have that problem right now, its a Buell: ).)
