can anyone tell me what kind of grease is best when putting my axle back on? Guessing just a lithium will be fine, but wanted to double check. Thanks

IIRC, all it calls for is anti-seize, no actual axle grease.

I've always done the threads and where the bearings rest on the axle. I've lost track of how many times the rear wheel's been off and back on at this point. No troubles yet, and never had it take an undue amount of effort to get back off, either.

I do grease the non-threaded part of the axle. Last time I removed it, it had a lot of what looked like corrosion on it. I took some steel wool to it and it came off, but I coated it with grease to be safe.

But yes...do use anti-seize on the threads.

Gasoline will also remove anti-seize and I imagine brake cleaner would, too

Axle grease??? What are we talking about here? A horse-driven carriage, or a Buell? In case of the latter, a little Loctite ® Anti-Seize on the axle threads will work fine. Of course, if you really feel compelled to slop a dollop of grease on the ol' wagon wheel, then have at it...
