Check your front spark plug wire I have replaced atleast three of these now, they can rub on the inside and causing the spark to arc out on frame etc.

David,

Can you be a little more specific (rpm, throttle setting, hot, cold, etc.)? Have you changed anything recently?

Checked plugs and wires last night and there ok . Pretty sure its in the fuel system . Injectors or wiring to the injectors !
I have to be honest I hope this is not a sign of things to come . I have rode jap bikes for over 25 years and never not had one of them not run . Since owning this bike for less then 8 months I have had to repair a broken wire in the middle of the harness that controls the head lights , I have had to remove the primary cover to retorq the fly wheel nut . It amazes me how Harley owners talk so bad about jap bikes and there owners but I never had to drive my car because of a broken down jap bike . Not to say that buell owners are harley owners but buells are part harley . Don't mind my ramblings guys I'm just pissed that my ride is down .

Skully the bike was running fine till I got home from work then it lost power . After checking it it was apparent that the front cyl was not firing . I let the bike cool off for about 2 hours and rechecked it and sure enough the front header pipe was cool to the touch while the rear cyl was hot . I pulled the plugs and checked the ign wires and there fine , removed and cleaned out injectors and checked and resecured connectors and still got spark but a dead front cyl . IMO the injector went bad or the wiring or controller of the injector went bad

Davy, is it an 04 left-over when you bought it or did you buy it from someone "used"?

Could be the coil. I had a similar problem and after checking all wires and plugs I dug deeper to find a crack in the coil. It was probably caused by a short circuit (which I found a bare wire touching metal under the seat). All was fine after replacing the coil.

Replace that plug even though it looks OK. It worked for me.

I'll put new plugs in when I get home . Have any of you guys ever experience fuel or injector problems on these bikes ?
I'm hoping it's just something simple cause till last night the bike ran fine and put a smile on my face when I rode it .
SO anyway I contact the dealer by me Bergen County HD and get this it would be at least 3 weeks before they could even look at it !

Yes twice. My XB9 seems to be a bit touchy. Make sure it is well warmed up before you start givin' some throttle. Fouls that front plug for some reason. My idle is just a touch low, this may have played a part.

Check the timing, make sure that the spark plug lead is FIRMLY connected at both ends and use dielectric grease. That's worked for me in the past.

That reminds me..
HAd one with the front plug wire which the connecter was on the plug ,but had pulled off the wire inside so spark had to jump from wire to plug connecter...

David,

I went though this a few months ago. My XB9 wouldn't idle like it had in the past. I determined that it was the rear cylinder because the rear header was cooler.

Without thinking about the problem, I went through and changed all of the sensors, sparkplug wires, sparkplugs, coil, even putting the stock ECM back on with no positive results.

Then it occurred to me that it had to be something cylinder specific. I replaced the rear injector and viloa! Problem solved.

I now have spare FI parts so troubleshooting next time will be easier.

How easy is it to swap injectors? Doing so would confirm the injector theory.

Davy boy,
Did you try to pull a trouble code with the jumper wire method? The front injector is #23 and the front coil is #24.

Fixed the problem , turns out the plugs were fouled . Installed double platinum plugs and the bike runs better then ever.
I'm happy again !!!!!

Standard way to foul the plugs on a Twelve.

1. turn on ignition
2. Start motor
3. Rev it a few times to " see how it sounds"
4. immediately shut down.

This technique was perfected by Harley salesmen when demonstrating Buells.

Personally, I would just leave this procedure to the salesmen.

I had the same problem but I've always had a "MISS" Then it got bad. After pulling the plugs and wires, I noticed the #1 coil end was brown and dull while the #2 was bright and shiney. The spring clip thats on the end of the wire is missing, obviously never on there. I cant get a new wire till hopefully tomorrow or the next day but the new plugs and reseating that wire have helped for now. Does anyone have the part number for that forward plug wire? It SHOULD be warranty work but I cant let it sit for a week or more.

Yeah I wont let my bike sit either , the dealer gave me some BS service date of over a month before i could get my bike looked at and I said screw that . Fixed it myself in less then a hour for just under 7 bucks .
