Has anyone done the rear tire swap from bitz4buells ? how much more difficult was it that just the rear tire change ? Did it affect the handling or not at all ? I'm also wondering about the modified rear wheel \ if they look "stock" besides the wider rim area . thanks

Haven't done it, never plan to. It will adversely affect your bike's handling. It will handle like a bus.

Your handling would be significantly affected. Lean angle would be significantly reduced (the edge of the tire would be reached at much less of a lean angle). Steering geometry would be changed. Not to mention the extra unsprung weight...

It all depends on what is important to you as a rider. Wide rear tires are more show than go.

If you're referring to the HBM kit, like what's on the Hellbender, there's more than just the wheel. I was told I'd have to send my wheel and swingarm over to be modified, plus about $2400.00. I think Scunna had his done over here by someone though...maybe ask him.

scuna put a 200 on, not sure why he had his rim widened as i would think it would fit on a stock rim. my 190 fits great.

anyway, you dont have to do anything to the stock swingarm accept remove the little plastic splash shield infront of the tire for clearence. last i knew the kit came with this rim

very sharp looking and still retain some of the stock rim look. you could just have your stock rim widened but not sure if you can get the rest of the pieces from them minus the rim.

Rice Jens kit.... yes they have to notch out the swingarm on oil tank side.Because of the wheel being 9 inches. Now if you go 8 inch you can still put the 240 on it and not have to cut into the swingarm.Sconna had his wheel widened to 6 inches for a 200mm. He could have got away with putting that on a stock 5.5 inch wheel but he probably didn't want the pinch that it had if he did.

hmm... guess i was wrong. i didnt ever catch the fact that they had to notch the swingarm. dont know how i would have missed something that important. i knew it would fit without moding the swingarm just didnt realize they did it the other way. thanks for correcting me Dana

Dana...
are you thinking of widening yours?

I know Kosman does wheel widening...but you would have to get the pulleys match offset still.

Rice sometimes I look at Scunna's ride and the 200 looks kinda nice without sacrificing to much in the handling aspects of things.

well i like the look of my 190. not all that much wider in reality, but just gives the impression it is by a quick glance. i really am considering the whole set it up so its swapable thing. if i could decide if i was going to keep the new buell or not it wouldnt be a problem. i'd 240 one and be done.

i had a 280 shoved in my swingarm awhile ago for $hits n giggles(off of the rim). would requier alittle moding though. that was sweet in a odd sort of way. we were drawing up some external drive setups since obviously it would fit even a chain in there, and then add a jackshaft. sure would be different wouldnt it

pirelli diablo's. I LOVE THOSE THINGS! threw on a 190 dunlop before when i was in need of a tire and a friend gave me his basically new one to wear out. everyone argues about how bad it would throw the handling off, well i sure dont take it easy and have had no problems what so ever. maybe im just lucky.

im running a 190 also, since my first tire change. They tried to tell me the tire wouldnt go on the rim and I about had a fit. Told em, "just try it". Went on no problem and i hang all the corner i care to hang.

seems to take a tiny bit of the bumps out of the road as well.

a guy on buelletinboard just got his rim done, heres what he had to say so far, its not complete yet but,

"the wheel cost me around 1000 u.s. dollars including shipping back and forth to germany.

but the workmanship is great and it is tuv approved which is like dot but in europe, the company here kosman or something like that does it for off road use only and they dont machine the welds so it doesnt look as clean.(according to there website) that is the main reason i didnt go with them.

manfreds wheels when done look like they came that way, you would never know i had a stock 5.5x17 made into a 8.5x18.

i was going to chain anyway. but also for clearance reasons. with the belt you have to run a offset wheel, mine is built centered no offset.

i am modify all the chain conversion parts now to get the right offset to clear the wheel. everything measures like it will work, but only fitting it will tell.

when it is all done and works properly i will give all the details."

doesnt really show the rim, but this is the only pic so far

Had miy rim widened from 5.5 to 6.25 i have a 200 on at the moment, but i know there are bigger tyres, tyre profiles out there will be searching when my 200 55 17 dunlop is worn out. Yes i know you can fit a 190 to standard rim bit tyre balloons out in centre.

Rice like I said I spoke to Kosman and no they do not machine out the weld but I have seen 2 or 3 already done it is very minimal and it can be sanded out without problem. Which I also have seen done. Kosman also have done several Chopper wheels for many builders and when this fella you speak of say they do it for off road use only??? That probably for the liability reason .... but off road means Drag Racing. Thats what there mainly in business for with the wheel widening end of there services. For a 1000 US versus the 600 US that Kosman will charge the weld can be cleaned up and I can have the wheel powder coated or what ever I want with cash to spare.

I was considering having mine done at Kosman as well... just need to get the pulley offset figured out. Do you have a source for to have your pulleys done?

It took almost 3 MONTHS just to GET a razor rear rotor and then another MONTH to send it to me.
All after weeks n weeks of unanswered emails.
