Is it just me or does it seem that at 5000 miles there is alot of Buells having issues? I can't tell you how many post I have read that right around the 5K mark, something major seems to happen. My own experience with this trend/pattern occurred last week. I had just performed the 5K service on my 04 XB12R. I started the bike up for the first time after the service and heard a louder than normal knock. So I re-checked the primary chain thinking I may have mis-adjusted it. Nope that wasn't it. So I ride the bike for about a week and the noise would come and go. I could always hear it on start up, then it would fade away. Then I started reading all the post about the compensation nut coming loose on so many Buells right around 5K. It got to the point where I felt unsafe riding the bike. So I bring my bike to the dealer and inform them of the service bulletin and the noise. I was informed because it was not a "recall" they would not cover the new torque spec under warranty. So I tell them that my bike is under warranty and is making an awful knocking noise, find it and fix it. And by the way you might want to start at the primary. Bike has been in the shop for a few days now. I also have a base gasket leak that is being taken care of while its in for "warranty" work. I'll keep ya posted on what the knocking was.

My first issue came at 20thousand, my stator gave out, now at 43thousand, and no other issues have come up.

Must be an XB12 thing. ;)

Wow I'm glad I got 7K on my City! I'm glad no one told it it was suppose to fall apart then. : )
But I did have trouble at 6K on my 12R track bike. Albeit not at 5K. All the levers on on side broke off suddenly and without notice! Seems like it takes exception to doing 60MPH at 90 degree lean angle from vertical. I guess the 50 degree in the brochure was right.

I can't believe the idiocy of some dealers. Your bike is under warranty and making a noise and they tell you the service bulletin won't be covered since it isn't a recall.

DUH!

I think Buell/HD is doing the right thing in dropping dealers that aren't really serious or wanting to be dealers. Better to sell less bikes today than to make a customer hate you for life and never buy again. If there were no dealers without driving for hours I probably wouldn't buy a Buell until one came, but if there was a dealer who jerked me and treated me like crap I wouldn't buy a Buell again EVER.

I'm just over 5K and no problems yet!

Except some repairs after I low-sided last fall.

Coincidence, I think so................

Well, my 9r is stuck at 53880 miles since Saturday b/c the speedo sensor died on the way to Hocking Hills. New one is on order. My bike had the old part# in it too.

At 5K miles, my bike started getting better. It started running smoother at low rpms & it started feeling a little bit more torquey. I guess it just took 5000 miles to wear in good.

XB9R with 41,000 miles and 4 trackdays. Lots of tires. one speedo sensor, one rear cylinder temp sensor, and two belts.

I'm happy.

Butch, glad to see someone giving XB9Rski a run for his money mileage-wise.

No trend at 5K miles at all!

I had plenty of problems before 5K AND since then.
The key to Buell ownership is being able to overcome!

It's the 5000 miles service that the bikes never recover from.

Jinance I think you are onto something, the only people I hear having trouble are the ones that have dealers service their bikes.

15K no problems, I don't count a speed sensor failing a problem, bike still ran fine without it for 1K.
