And spoke with my pocketbook and bought a suzuki and a ktm

I see no reason to bash, bash, bash......the data is out there.

I do hope that they finally get it right...but someone else can beta test the product rather than me.

THERE ARE "TWO CLASSES" OF BUELLers:

The BUELLers that still have their BUELL !!!

Those BUELLers that went to another BRAND
AND WISH THEY HAD THEIR BUELL "BACK" !!!

Lurch, I appreciate your opinion, but have seen
suzuki, who make some of the edgiest japanese
bikes, rush to production on the gsxr line and let
the riders "beta test" for them.

I'm not slamming them, I admire their drive to
compete, being the smallest of the Japanese factories.

KTM has also released less than perfect bikes. They
work to correct the problems, but again they are
a relatively small manufacturer compared to the giants,
Honda, Yamaha, H-D. Buell is not H-D, it is owned
by H-D but it is an independent company that has
limited use of H-D r&d resources.

Notice a trend? The larger companies can afford to
refine their products to a greater extent than the
smaller companies, Buell, Suzuki, Kawasaki etc...

Just food for thought.

BTW voting with your wallet is the most effective way
to tell corporations what you want for the most part.

We are Lucky that Erik Buell makes himself so accessible
to the customers.

You forgot about the third class....Those BUELLers that went to another brand and wished they had done it sooner...just kidding before anyone gets hyper over-protective...I loved my Buell(honest)

I thought Buell was owned by Harley Davidson?
How much larger & richer can you get than that?

Lurch, I'd like to know what problems you've encountered. I know, knock on wood, my bike has been great, aside from the usual maintenance and wear items. Fill me in on your problems if you don't mind. I'm always looking for things to keep an eye on.

As far as for buell 1111 above, I usually don't care one way or the other about your posts, but seriously, did you not read the post by brian? think a little- or perhaps a lot... that's all i am going to say on that issue.

Sorry you've had problems... And I'm somewhat sorry that telling you that I have >20K miles on my '04 12R and it's been in the shop for a total of about 45 minutes won't help you...

Have a good time on whatever you ride though : ).

If that's the case, Saint Erik should just talk HD into forking out more funds for R & D on Buell.
Either that, or approach Suzuki!
I have a '97 TL1000S that's quite a remarkable bike for a V-twin a decade old!

I was going to buy a 1000 V-Strom untill I seen the Uly.

My buddy at work bought a V-Strom last year. It has been a good bike BUT.......when we went for a ride last month I SMOKED him on the gravel. I was pulling the front tire over obsticales that almost made him crash. I had MUCH more fun. We didn't wring them out on the pavement but I'd bet I could SMOKE him through the twisties too. Good thing it cost about $2500 less....it shows.

My brother has a 950 Adventure S. He's a little faster on the dirt but on the pavement I rule. (BTW that is where we ride 90% of the time.) His seat was a torture device untill he paid $400 for a custom seat.

My buddies V-Strom has been bullet proof.....I'm sure my bro' wishes he could say the same for his KTM.

Oh and my Uly? The worse was a broken belt at 7700mi., and some minor problems with the luggage and a liscense plate light.

I came about 2 weeks from buying a V-Strom. I'm glad I found the Buell first.

except Honda threw the GL1800 out almost 2 full years before they were ready, because of BMW's release of the 1200LT... and thus, the first two years of the GW were a recall nightmare... so it's not JUST the smaller companies...

btw, I must be retarded... cause I can't even seem to find a way to send an email to Buell... atleast not on their website... anybody know how I could get ahold of them directly?

Funny, my 30,000 mile Buell has been more reliable than my Kawasaki Concours and my Honda Odyssey!!! My Kawasaki had a light relay that shuts off the headlamp intermittently and I'm on my 3rd transmission on my Honda!!!

Japanese Quality -- Ha!

My Buell has NEVER let me down... wish I could say the same for Vance & Hines and Supertrapp...

I've got a Honda that has over 300,000 miles on it, and has been a great bike for many decades.
I also have a '95 Buell with 150,000 miles on it. It too, has been a great bike.
This bike is better than that bike, blah, blah, blah...

Bdechenzio,
Like anything else made in mass, it depends what you get. I have a first year goldwing '01 which has been perfect. The only probs I had was a loose bolt at the trunk hinge and the mute switch for the stereo. I never had the ECM recall done due to the fact that mine never exibited the symptoms.

Just felt I had to defend the Wing, and to a lesser extent, explain the disparity between those who have troubled Buells and those who have thousands of trouble-free miles.

How dare you mention that here and not post pic's? What model? What year?

I love high mileage. 300k is impressive on a car, never mind a motorcycle. Ok, I know it's a Honda. We've all got our faults LOL. Amazing!

Ditto that! 100,000 miles on a bike is impressive. I can't imagine 300,000.

And 150,000 on a Buell. You must take really good care of your stuff. That is just freak'n awesome.

<quote>suzuki, who make some of the edgiest japanese bikes,<endquote>

I'm taking you a bit out of context, but look up hyosung bikes - they're a Korean company that actually partially build, and assemble the bikes for Suzuki!!( the GV650 is just hitting the market here - a Hyosung badged version of the SV650. GV1000, and dual sports[650&100 stroms] to follow within 2 years)

either way, pretty funny when the much talked about japanese quality is now being out-sourced.

The Koreans have been cloning sv dna over there for years now. Unfortunately they
make a little less HP than the suzukis. maybe their efi is less advanced? either way,
China and Korea are the "New Japan" I mean the original Hyundai was a cheap copy
of the toyota tercel right? The Chinese have taken over the 50's era spot the Japanese
occupied. Made in China=cheap, like made in Japan used to. The Japanese are really
going to be hurt by the tech explosion hitting China right now.

Also remember when the Japanese used to disregard our patents,
reverse engineer everything and sell it back to us?

They are now victims of those same tactics.
I wonder how they'll react.

Brian - the Hyosungs arent copies - if you read the corporate bio's, HS build FOR suzuki, and the GV's are actually license built. They're less powerful due to carbs VS efi - one of the things Suzuki wont license to them.

I was more pointing out that 'japanese' quality is somewhat suspect when 'suzuki' and the others arent actually building the bikes in house.
