I need to give this bike a big ole I have had the Xb9S for a week now, and could be more pleased. I have changed the oil, plugs, trans fluid, and tightened the primary chain, adjusted the suspension for my wife’s height and weight "5-2 125" and did a little sound mod to the exhaust. Its a little change from wrenching on the V-rod but its very simple and the service manual is very very good. I can’t believe how good the bike handles on the city streets and up on the freeway!! The best part of the whole thing is the smile it put on my wife’s face the first time she rode it. She has never ridden a motorcycle before, and the last 3 days I’ve had her in front of the house going mailbox to mailbox. She is very excited about it! Thanks to all who have posted to help me out with stuff.

Smoothrod - Glad to hear it.

Talking about your wife doing starts and stops between mailboxes brought a smile.

Taught both my son and daughter and remember doing the same in a big church parking lot by my house. Then on to circles and figure 8's. Then some hard braking, etc...

That was some nerve racking time though....

Remember, if you are not already aware, on a sportbike the vast majority of braking is done by the front brake, not the back.

My kids coming off bicycles, had to relearn from being taught not to hard front brake on the bicycles.

I taught both to stay completely off the back brake, had them learn with front brake only.

Excuse me if I am addressing something already known, but noticed you had a cruiser.... and didn't know your background

Lonnie, glad your wife is enjoying the bike as much as you are! So, does she dig the exhaust now?

I'm interested too...I need some more bang out of the stock can. I've heard rumors of some tinkering that can give it some decibels.

There are lots of mods that you can do to the stock XB9 can that will give it superior sound. There is some performance issues, but like most that are after the sound, you could live with the minmal bottom end loss. Drop me an email and I'll tell you what I have done to mine.
