Don't have any cigs to smoke, but I have a Camel box fits with joints out in the living room... guess I'll go smoke one of them instead.

Ahh the joy of college.

I have, and will whenever given the opportunity, climb off my bike at a traffic light, pick up the butt thrown from another stopped car, and toss it right back in their car, lit or not, with a calm but serious "Use your Ashtray, butthead". It really ticks me off to see folks throw butts, especially lit ones, out the window. There are lots of Californians who have lost everything they own due to idiots that do this. Even if not lit, they aren't biodegradeable due to the filters, they wash into the streams and such. It is inconsiderate littering.

I smoke. My little Ford turnover (Bronco II) stinks. I don't mind.
I use the ashtray. When out on the streets I snuff the cig between my thumb & finger & throw it in the trash or my pocket if I can't find a trash can. Never does a lit cig leave my fingers.
I try to set a good example but I don't think it's really helping from what I see on the road.

Oh, I do check the butte to make sure it is cold before throwing it away.

A few years back working late one evening one of the field crew supervisors popped his head into my office on his way out for a smoke asking if I wanted to take a break with him. Sounbds good to me. I refilled my coffee mug and joined him outside where he offered me a cigarette. Thinking back fondly to my offshore days, where out of boredom I'd occasionally puff on a gifted cigarette for entertainment, I accepted.

Darn filterless Camel almost put me on the ground I got so dizzy. LOL. It's unbelievable what nicotine does to the unaddicted.

Similar story camping with friends at Lake Texoma. After a day of water-skiing and fishing, we had settled down around a nice campfire with a little after-dinner beer. One of the group of four was a smoker, and one was a Skoal dipper. We all partook of there offerings, Skoal first, then a cigarette. After two puffs on a Marlboro, my future best-man and pediatrician to be, Jon, slowly tipped over backwards in his camp chair, coming to rest softly in the sand. He couldn't immediately get up for laughing so hard. The rest of us thought it was pretty entertaining to.

Cigarettes are way more fun if you only smoke 'em on rare occasions. : )

I'm a smoker -- I've not a a cigarette for almost 2 years, but I'm a smoker ;-}

I agree that the idiots that throw butts out of windows are, in fact idiots, who've caused a great deal of damage in a number of places (as Al states above) --

I am amazed, however, at the vitriol shown to the remaining population that smoke, while most think nothing of driving and talking on the phone, driving and applying makeup/knitting/needlework/reading, you name it

ah well, like I said

I'm a smoker

Darn right Blake! I smoke about once every two years. Few months back we had a poker night and we all partook in dip and smokes. WOA!!! Never had such a buzz! Gotta wait another year and a half to do that again.

And why is it so trendy to tax the hell of smokers, who are typically a bit lower on the income level anyway? Just cuz it is a social faux pas doesn't make it right to tax them to oblivion. What if motorcycle riding becomes a social no no, or going to church, or whatever?

they have to tax them so they can pay to clean up the 24,509,823,745,092,834,795,087,562,067,484,933,609,827 butts littering every road in the country.

You know I remember seeing an ad on TV not to long ago about how you cannot buy a cigarette that keeps burning in I think New York City. Basically they are designed to go out rather quickly if your are not taking a drag on it like a cigar. There was a story recently about another person starting themselves on fire by falling asleep with a cig. The Tobacco companies put chemicals in there just to keep them burning. Sorry I am not sue happy but since they have successfully sued them for health reasons maybe it is time for all the fire damage, since no one seems to be taking responsibility for their actions anymore. Oh and the lady that started herself on fire was in a nursing home, what if everyone had burned and died? You guys can keep smoking I don't care but, the tobacco companies need to make a fire safe cigarette.

I support every individual's right to grow their own tobacco and smoke it where ever they like. I also support everyone's right to carry a 6-shooter.

Krassh,
That concept may be coming. Consider that some want to sue firearms manufacturers for the acts done with firearms by criminals. Only a matter of time before someone tries to sue R.J.Reynolds for a roadside brush fire with the same reasoning.

And by the way, I've been around Bomber when he was smoking and he never once blew smoke in my face nor tried to put his cigarette out in my ear.
Didn't know it's been two years since you've had a puff, congratulations. One day at a time. It's gotta be rough though when smoking threads surface. I think just yesterday we made CJ go for a smoke break.

I think I'll be done with this thread now.
bye.

Look for the solid bar, adjacent to the bar code, on packs sold in NYC. These are the "self extinguishers".

Congratulations Bomber.

Vick's Dad is in critical care, in a medically induced coma with little time left with us.

He's 82 and, likely, absent the smoking he'd have another good 10-15 years.

Tow years ago, following a clean chest ex-ray he was bragging and calling the Surgeon General an idiot.

This time, when raced to the hospital swollen with congestive heart failure, the surgeon general is looking a bit wiser.

About 5% heart capacity, a couple baseball looking spots on the lungs and, even with oxygen masks in place, reaching for the remote control takes 15 minutes to catch his breath.

Normal lung function gone, he breathes with his diaphram muscles. Ergo, he gets tired, he stops breathing.

17 tubes and 9 monitors tracing are doing what you and I do for ourselves.

I had, while in Dallas for the Advanced Management Program in 1988, the chance to have dinner with Dr. Ken Cooper. Many of you know him for the term "Aerobics" he termed.

He's a fairly scholarly type and exudes credibility. He told me that there are but two things that will assure your early departure from this planet. One is not wearing a seat belt in an automobile, the other smoking.

I'm one of the folks that smoker's hate. I smoke sometimes when I go hunting, sometimes a couple cigarettes a week. That's currently being looked at, given the Father-in-Law situation, closely.

I'm finding another thing happening.....I never dreamt, 4 years older than my Grandfather was when he died of a heart attack, I'd be playing guitar and piano, taking music lessons, making new friends of famous musicians and seeing my sons remain my two best friends. . . and, well, Buell introducing the Ulysses. In all honesty. . . everyone in my life from my friends to my motorcycle company of choice are giving me reasons to stay longer.

I want to.

Congratulations Bomber. . . I look forward to knocking your out of a wheel chair at a B.R.A.G. event YEARS HENCE.

I believe riding a bike is statistically worse than driving w/o a seatbelt. No worries, I'm working on a seatbelt mod for my XB.
Guess we all make our choices and are stuck with the consequences...
