That was what I’ve over heard from some of those guys who were gawking the bike…

That’s one of the better ones I’ve heard. Normally I hear “what the heck is this..” follow by “wow…”.

One of the very few riders here tells me… I got to park it out front (inside of by the back door) so everyone can see it. Hee-hee. I am liking my new job here….

I have had some of the same experiences!! I actually had a guy pull up next to me at a light and ask "Hey, is that the new Kawasaki?" serious as all get out.

Oh and another dude, "Hey bro, man that bike is small, what is it, like a 250 or something?"

LOL

I had someone actually ask me if it was an SV 650. When I told then it was a Buell 984 all they said was WOW, then the light turned green. I was almost insulted by that reference. Oh well

Had just finished lining up a row of about a dozen new XB9-12Rs in the showroom front windows in the Ft Lauderdale Buell Shop late in 2003 and a couple of guys come in and ask about the price of our cool new 250 RACE REPLICA bikes!

I had someone ask the proverbial question. Is it reliable. When I told him yes he had this look of no way. sigh....

I usually just get the "how fast will it go?" by younger people, some not even old enough to drive yet.
The mags really have done a good job brainwashing young riders that top end is the only measure of a bike.

I tell 'em

"well, the speedo goes up to 160" : )

Or...

"I dunno, I always slow down for the straight bits".

A co-worker, who used to race motorcross professionally, had never heard of Buell but he was blown away by the look of my 12. He remarked it looked like a cafe racer or an exotic. He couldn't believe there was a 1200 stuffed into such a small package and he absolutely loved the front brake.

Yep,

I have finally come to the conclusion that jealousy is the reason for some of the rice rocket guys always trying to run Buell down. Inevitably it is the Firebolt that gets the most looks in the parking lot at the local mountain cafe; )

I took a Wednesday off a few weeks ago and went riding with a couple co-workers all over Michigan.

We stopped in Caseville (tip of the 'thumb') at a little coffee shop to stretch and relax for a bit.

A few people walked up, ogled the Ducati, walktzed right past the GSXR1000, and ogled the Firebolt.

We both gave the GSXR owner an earful of . LOL

They ain't that far off. The R's were made with the dimensions of a 250 GP bike as a goal.

"What size is that? 750? 600?" I get asked that a ton. I even has someone ask if it was a 250 or 500. That one made me look at him with the wtf look.

"He remarked it looked like a cafe racer or an exotic."
It is an exotic! It just happens to be assembled here in America.
I get asked a lot "What is it?" "What size is it?" If someone guesses it's a 600 or even a 250, I'm not insulted. They are always surprised to find out there is a 1200cc V-twin tucked into the chassis.
Then will they ask if it's fast...I just say "It's pretty quick"

I WENT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO GET SOME GLOVES LAST WINTER, AND SOME GUY HEARD IT, LOOKED AT IT, AND ASKED ME WHAT KIND IT WAS. WHEN I TOLD HIM IT WAS A BUELL, HE SAID, "OH YEA, A BLAST." I JUST LOOKED AT HIM AND LAUGHED. IF A BLAST LOOKED AND SOUNDED LIKE A 12S WITH A D&D EXHAUST, THEN IT WOULDNT BE A BEGINNER BIKE AT ALL. I GUESS THATS WHY HE HAS YOUR TYPICAL EVERYDAY, RUN OF THE MILL HONDA, AND WE ALL HAVE OUR UNIQUE BUELLS.
