My 1125r has been actin up here lately. It was hard to start and sounded like the starter would engage sometimes and then other time sound like it would just spin and do nothing. Then sometimes it sounded like the starter was making a grinding noise when it was tryin to engage. First i just thought it was the battery. So i charged it overnite. Then bike ran good for about a week. Saturday I rode it when I got ready to come home. It took like 5 minutes to get it started. But ran good all the was home. I got up yesterday and it wont even run now just the same noise as before.Im thinking from what Ive read on here it the sprag clutch. Any help is greatly apprecaited |

Sounds very much like my current problem. Starter motor just runs free. This after periods of awful noises at times, they sometimes sounded very expensive. Taking it to service guy tomorrow. |

Your Sprague has failed. Do not attempt to start or run the motor. You will be spreading bits of metal all over the engine. After replacing, thoroughly clean all the contamination or the whole engine is at risk. |

Ouch. I'm having some starting issues too. I'm hoping its not my sprag. Bugger is expensive. My issues only seem to happen when the bike is hot. No dragging or freewheeling of the starter...yet. I'm just getting a nice click from the starter and some system voltage issues... |

I have identified this before, but I'll do it again. The Sprague is very poorly oiled. If this isn't a big issue yet, it will be. The current design uses waste oil from the left crank main bearing. That side of the Sprague has very small openings for oil. The rotor side of the Sprague has the largest openings, but there is no available oil there. I suggest using the EBR stator cooling mod along with drilled holes in the rotor as a solution. |
