when I turn the key on my fuel pressure goes to 80 psi then drops to 0 in about 5 seconds it makes it hard to start. when running at idle or 4000 rpm I have 60 psi witch is good. Is there any kind of check valve to keep the pressure up for start up? |

I think the pressure is regulated by modulating the pump rather than any relief valve it could be the pressure sensor going bad. |

that is my second pressure sensor in the fuel line. My pump would never shut off to keep my pressure up for starting. The pressure drops that fast. By the time IC goes through its cycle my pressure is almost down to 0. It don't have that crack when starting a cold motor anymore. (Message edited by dennis c on September 26, 2012) |

Your pump is broke. The non return valve is built in. Should hold pressure all day long. |

battyone have you heard a check valve that I could put in the fuel that would do the same thing I could put that up by the seat and save about $275. Thanks at least you had the answer to my ? |

I've had 2 failed fuel pumps, both started the same as you describe. Early 2008 "R". Pressure while running(idling) was in range but key-on, motor-off was way low. Funny thing, with the current pump, it was showing low on the static test, then a month or two later looked good so I left it be. I did score a used take-off as a future replacement. I did a dyno run in May that was low power(114HP) but more significantly, a very choppy graph. Pretty sure the pump is the culprit. I plan on replacing it soon, also gonna pull the ignition cover and re-torque my rotor nut with the right Loctite and torque. Zack |
