Well, it's not a bike part, just something to hopefully help speed up production some. I timed my old band saw, typical time was 6 minutes per cut if I pushed on it some. The new one (used, but new to me) does the same cut in about 45 seconds. That's with worn out guide bearings and who knows how old the blade is or how much it had cut prior to me getting it. Just ordered all new bearings for it, a couple of spare blades and some misc parts that I thought it needed. It's an Ellis 1800 miter saw and it appears to be worth a bit more than what I paid for it. Yep, it's a monster for my garage, it's 650 lbs and was a pain to get it home. 2 days of driving, but it looks like it was worth it.  | ||

So have you figured how many cuts you'll have to make before it's made the drive/rebuild time and the cost back to you? Just curious. | ||

it's an Ellis - we have one at our shop - just keeps on working- oil the vise (we have a quick clamp- lever type) or it'll stick and cause you to loose a few minutes! - use a variable pitch bi metal blade on the SS - we buy ours from here: http://www.bandsawbladesdirect.com/index.php good tool - you should realize ROI quickly. - good luck! | ||

Well, I think I've bought between 40-50 blades for the smaller saw I have at about $13 each. Basically I'd go through one blade a week. From what everyone has told me about this saw, the blades last anywhere from 6 months to a year, sometimes longer. I _think_ the guy said the blade on this one has been on it for about 3.5 years now, but it wasn't production use. I did check the cut time to see how much faster it was. I cut up the 45 degree collector bends, somewhere around 30 pieces and did it in less than 1/2 an hour. Normally, it would have taken me well over 3-4 hours to cut that, so it's a huge difference in time. I have to cut the other end still, so add another 1/2 hour. With that alone, I just saved a minimum of 4-5 hours of time. That's on just ONE part. It will take a couple of weeks to really pay for the machine if you want to look at it that way, but I consider it paid for already since I know it will get the job done so much faster. I did buy it used for a song, they list for about $3500 new, plus the screw type clamp is an expensive option that I essentially got for free. I love my wife, she's the one that found this one for me. | ||

Ellis saws are the shit. I have a model 1600 here along with an Ellis Drill Press and Ellis Belt Grinder. Just fantastic quality tools I'll have for a lifetime. | ||

Roses? - get her a deburring knife and teach her the art of smooth burr free edges - first "job" I taught my daughters! - back in my aerospace days - all the women worked in the deburing dept. - good to work in factories with woman - great pot luck luncheons at holidays times - especially when you're young and single! | ||
