On occasion my 08 1125r speedometer loses it's mind. Most of the time it will drop to zero for a bit and then resume displaying the speed. A couple other times it went nuts and displayed speeds all over the place.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? I know I'll need to talk to the warranty folks but I'm expecting an argument as it does 'work' most of the time.

thanks

superdave

I was starting to experience the same problem right before i deployed back in Dec. im dreading dealing with it when i get back. Is this hard to fix yourself? or is there a post already addressing this?

Can you just clean the vss off or does it need to be replaced? Ive seen (in cars) where minute amounts of metal shavings will build up and block the sensors reading. Is that the case here?

I read on another post that alot of the time it is just the grounds being loose which would make sense on why it is a random problem rather than a constant. Where are these located on the bike?

two grounds,
one is to left of the fuel pump where the frame meets the swingarm. You will see the plastic cover over the fuel pump, the nut that holds on the plastic cover also holds the ground on the frame.
The second ground is on the front of the frame, right under where the triple trees attach to the frame. It is a t27 bolt.

I have had the speedo go out, but only for a few seconds, if it persists i will change out the vss sensor.

chances are that if the grounds are tight its gotta be a problem with the vss its self. dont ask me how to replace that cuz i havent the slightest clue but im sure someone on here does

The second ground

This is the vss sensor.

This is where the vss connects to the wire harness

Great help with the pics!!! I'd seen the probable failure provided before, but never had taken the time to see what that really meant.
