Thanks Chris and Tripp.
I'm in "parts", not "service" and the only way I've found this one on h-dnet is to check Vehicle info with my VIN.

Apparently, I don't have the same access as the service dept gets(makes sense).

Loretta's on the rack for major surgery.
I put her all back together, halfway thru the 12.4 k service I was doing, when I found the bad camshaft.
She has a sticky note on the airbox - "DO NOT START - no oil", looks like Max's next project. : )

I'll make sure she gets the re-flash before she hits the road again.

I love BadWeB.

Well I thought I would give the local dealership a try (again) instead of taking the hour drive to where I usually go. I had a feeling that something might go wrong ... unfortunately they were not able to get the flash to take. I told them about this website/thread but I feel like they just blew me off. They said they would contact Buell Customer Service on monday. Very frustrating...

Well, the dealership contacted Buell Customer Service and was still unable to get the flash to take. They tried it on my bike and on a 08 floor model with no success.

Chris (Odinbueller), I have sent you a PM ... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Anyone know the difference between the CA flash and the 49 state flash?

Helicon... just humor me and try this. Put your 1125r on a battery charger/maintainer all night, and try it again. MAKE SURE the techs are connecting the Digital Tech to the wall adapter *See the power notice above* Also, their tech should be updated to the current version. If they cannot flash a floor model either I would think it's their tech. I took mine in on Friday and my local dealer had the same problem. I took it the next day 150 miles south to Joplin, MO at Cycle Connection and wham! They had her ready in minutes. We had one hiccup because my retarded ass forgot to shut off the Theft Arming, but all we had to do was reflash it and enter the pin code. Too easy.

I dunno what else to tell ya Helicon, good luck and let us know what happens. Just figured I'd share my experience. You might even try printing out the info posted here and letting them try it.

Cory, I explained to the service guys that they needed to be using AC power as stated above or it would not work. They stated that they thought that they used it. The tech had gone home early and was not available to confirm. Unfortunately I will not be able to pickup the bike until Thursday, so they have until then to figure it out or else I'll take it to where I should have taken it in the first place. For some reason they don't seem real interested in the information provided here. I'm doing my best to not be annoying and say "well, have you tried this..." but I feel like they are doing something wrong.

For some reason they don't seem real interested in the information provided here.

From what I can tell, the service department dislikes the internet as it makes the customer much more informed...in most cases more informed than the service department. In a couple instances, I have been able to cut through some of their BS because of this forum. Boy, they didn't like that..

If they are having a problem reflashing then tell them to look up TT374. That tells the exactly how to reflash. It must be followed exactly or it won't work. The tech link must be plugged in or it won't be able to communicate with the ecm with the ignition off. A battery charger while reflashing is almost mandatory too.

This is not unique to the Buell ECM. I had the software to flash my own ECM when I owned my Aprilia. After a couple of early panics, I figured out that flashes had a much better chance of completing when the Tender was connected.

This may be a dumb question but I'm asking anyway:

If I have it reflashed today by a dealer that knows what they are doing, and then I take it on Saturday to a dealer that dosen't have a clue about doing the flash(to fix the weep hole issue)- can the dealer that dosen't have a clue overwrite the new flash with the old one?

Jason - bring it on up to High Country.
Max is finishing an XB, hopefully Loretta is next, she's on a lift.
Justin is working on Harleys, I'm sure he'd appreciate playing with your 1125R.
If you come up, tell them you heard it here on BadWeB.

Haven't heard anything official yet, but we are working on being a BadWeB sponsor again.

Zack in parts? What happened to the "whole you"? I though it was Loretta that is in parts at the moment.

Sorry Zak, could not help myself...

I have a comment and a question.

It seems like connecting and uploading a new software upgrade to a Buell ECM is a 50/50 proposition at best. Why is this so difficult?

Is the 1125R the first in the extended and immediate Harley family where a software upload can be performed, meaning most techs haven't performed this service before or is it just bad IT infrastructure or poor communication? Distributing software across wires is not new news in the automotive world and I think there's experience out there to do it reliably.

If the 1125R is the first of the extended Harley family with the feature of software upload it surely won't be the only one in the future.Perhaps HD should inform the dealer network of the exact procedure in in extra special and framed bulletin and go through it again in person and in detail at the winter meeting.

Chris, I spoke to the dealership once again today and they state that they are still unable to get it to work. They said that Buell Customer Service has not been very helpful. I gave them your name and number, so hopefully they'll give you a call by tomorrow. Thankyou for responding to my PM.

Zac, depending on what happens I just might take you up on that offer assuming it wouldn't take 4 days to complete...

Let me put in a good word for High Country HD/Buell. After some bad service experiences at the other nearby dealer, I drove the extra 10 miles to High Country and was very pleasantly surprised at the staff there. They're a sharp bunch who clearly know and love their Buells. They did the new ECM flash on my 1125r while I waited, and I would have been back on the road in 20 minutes if I hadn't spent an hour shooting the shit with Zack. :-) I'll definitely be returning for future services.

As for the new flash, I'm extremely pleased. Almost all the stumbling under 5k RPM is gone, running temps are down 15 C and gas mileage has improved noticeably. My bike used to stink up the garage something fierce after rides, and while I still smell fumes a little bit the worst of the fuel boiling seems to be gone as well. Finally, this is the bike I thought I was buying in the first place. Sadly, it's too late for my poor bike; my wife's already named her "Stinky".

At least it's not as bad as one guy's wife's nickname for his bike. He called it his "Mistress" she calls it "That Hooker in the Garage"...

Any HD dealer can lookup your VIN and see the latest work done to it. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't lie about that though.

I just got my bike back from the shop after having the flash performed.

Power wise, I have not yet noticed that much of a difference (yet)....but I haven't had much of a chance to get too spirited yet because of a LOT of police traffic lately. (I swear I'm being followed)

Heat between my legs is DEFINITELY much better. I can touch the frame with my bare hands after riding now and leave my hand on it versus merely being able to quickly pat the frame to avoid feeling pain.

Fuel economy readouts on the instant mpg gauge seems improved....but I'm waiting for fill-up before I call a final judgment on that one.

Only way to tell for sure is have the service tech hook the bike up to the Digital Tech II and read the calibration number off the ECM. M3HUS03Z is the latest.

Original calibration - B3HUS01W
May 08 Calibration - M3HUS02Y
Sept 08 Calibration - M3HUS03Z

If you can ride your bike in the lower RPM's with no surging, then it is likely been reflashed.

I knew instantly my reflash worked as I left the parking lot. So smooth in the lower RPM's!

If you can ride your bike in the lower RPM's with no surging, then it is likely been reflashed.

Caution: Do NOT do this until after your break-in has been completed. The manual specifically advises to NOT "lug" the motor during the break-in.

Just got mine done....initial reactions after about 20 miles.

Running about 10 degrees cooler.

Throttle response seems crisper. Seems to rev quicker. Blipping the throttle at idle is not IL4 fast, but quicker than before.

Low RPM performance is marginally better, but remember that i had no complaints in this area prior to the flash.

Checked the A/F values after the ride and it was 80 somethimg in the front and 100 in the rear. Anyone care to comment on that? That is something I will monitor for a while.

MPG seems to be up when looking at the Instant MPG, but the true test will be on the next few fill-ups...

Just had mine done as well. My response is OMG what a dramatic difference. Keep in mind mine was running pretty good before. I had no major complaints even my surging seemed mild compared to others.

As others have reported the first flash said it took, but it just reflashed the M2HUS02y (before & after). I also confirmed that this first flash did not reset the AFV's. Second time confirmed by the printout M2HUS02y before and M3HUS03Z after. And AFv's did reset this time to 100.

Here's some data comparing trip to the dealer "before" the flash and trip home "after" the flash (30 miles each way, mostly highway).

MPG 33 before 48 after
AT 65 before 78 after
CT 185 before 173 after
AFV 89F/93R) before 90/100 after

My observations:

- Almost no surging (ever so slight surging between 3.5-4K)Almost can't tell it's there.

- Revs faster

- Drive of the line drastically improved.

- No longer has a tendency to lug in higher gears below 4K RPM

The drive off the line is what really impressed me. To give you an example. On my XB I used to love to take a turn from a stop light or stop sign. I'd roll out, turn late, lean hard and role on the throttle fairly aggressively.

I used to have a lot of fun doing this on the XB. Have never been comfortable doing it on the 1125R because the throttle response was just to unpredictable below 3K. Well now I'm back to leaving the line on stopped turns with immediate aggressive lean angle and throttle. Whats more I'm now actually power sliding the rear wheel while doing this. Something I never had the confidence to do on the XB.

This says a lot about how much improved the throttle response is. Very smooth and predictable now as opposed to being unnerving and unpredictable before.

I was having so much fun, when I got home I couldn't bring myself to pull into the driveway. Drove right past my house and put another 80 miles on the bike before I stopped. It's like I have a brand new motorcycle again!
