Ok, I've been around reading all your posts, and I've gotten a LOT of information from it. THANKS!

I have decided to purchase a 1125R of my own in the near future, and I have a question to ask of you.

Should I go with an extended warranty or not?
I am one that likes to do much of my own maintenance, but if there are major problems, I don't have the knowledge to do the repairs.
So, do I just stick to the 2 year factory warranty, and if I have major problems, get rid of it before that time is up?
OR do I buy the extended warranty, and have them fix it free for the next 4-5 years?

Thanks in advance for the help and advice!

Hi Ryan... and Welcome!
I have 4500 miles on my 1125R and have owned 6 previous Buells. I did not buy the extended warranty for my 1125. My ownership experience so far is that it is a reliable and sturdy bike.

A handful of owners have experienced problems that I would categorizes as teething issues with a brand new model which will be covered under standard factory warranty.

The major mechanical components are rock solid in my experiences so far.

So my recommendation would be to skip the extended warranty.

I wished I had purchased extended warranty on a couple of the Buells I owned in the 90ies. There's a lot of water under the bridge since then and this generation of Buell is much improved in all ways; sturdiness included.

Ok, that was my thought, just as it is a new model there will obviously be bugs, it's the nature of the beast.

I am hoping that all the bugs would be worked out before the 2 years is up.

Bugs will be fixed in the first 2 year unlimited warranty. Besides, you can always purchase the extended warranty before your 2 years expires.

Take a wait and see position. If you see continuing issues, are you really going to keep it?

In my experience, a sample of one, I've had less problems with my "eleven" than I had when I bought my BMW R1100S (new) some years back.

I got the warranty so it would cover car rentals because I am bike only guy and I thought it would cover car rental till the bike was fix.

My bike broke down and took over two month to fix, I ended up owing 350.00 because no one told me this, and did not find out to I was that much over until the car rental place called me and said they were not getting paid.

I still had to wait more than a month after that with no transportation.

read the fine print only 10 days 750.00 dollars, I am cancelling it.

My first Buell had 300 miles on it and 2 weeks of warranty left.
Out of warranty, Buell CS comp'd me a belt after I killed 2.
Minor problems, I fixed; I loved that bike, grown to love the Company too.

Loretta has 2 YEARS of warranty.
I'll still fix little stuff, just dremelled the drive sprocket cover.
Tired of the wear on the edge of my belt.

Anything major, I know will be taken care of.
The rest, I can handle.

>>>They never cover anything.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't and they do a poor job of telling you what's in and out.

The extended warranty has no relationship to Buell or Harley-Davidson and the extended warranty folks have zero clout with the HD/Buell folks. . . you are buying a 3rd party insurance policy.

Dealers make (or used to make) better than 100% mark-up) on these deals, it'show the salesmen get the dealers to sell them so it's not unheard of that dealers have offered the coverage a big discounts.

But . . . it's a real crap shoot.

In my personal opinion, you'd be better off to take the $1,000, or whatever, stick it in a mutual fund and let it grow.

Opinions, like experiences, will vary. Others have much more experience than I. My experience was from within Buell trying to deal with these rascals.

#700 has been hiding up here in ND.
Along with at least 3 others.
I don't know when they were manufactured or delivered, can I find that from the VIN?

It might be in the VIN but I know it's stamped on the rightside of the frame at the neck.

They just got a new crate in, so I'm getting the "newer" one instead. #1871
