I see REAL value in this market. Sales in the hundreds, maybe a thousand after 4-5yrs....and the chrome & t-shirt sales..... cannot wait to see my stock rebound

you know what I think would do really well in the Indian market? A small, maneuverable bike...maybe a dual-purpose on-road/off-road bike or something that can be really nimble on crowded streets.

oh...wait. never mind.

I guess a giant highway queen that can't swerve to avoid a cow and is often mistaken for one will do just as well.

For the naysayers out there, the last paragraph of the article says it all. This is a HUGE market...lol.

"The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) puts the size of the market for premium bikes at about 500 units a year. “It should increase to about 1,000 units per year by 2015,” said Mr Sugoto Sen, Director, SIAM. He added that a boost in auto sales in the premium category generally comes when per capita income rises above $1,000. For India this would be around 2014."

Harley could make about $1.6 million in sales per year, assuming they are able to corner 100% of the market.

How many people making approx $1k a year are going to splurge on a $20k motorcycle?

500 bikes a year, eh? I'm sure H-D could sell more than 500 Buells a year. Sheesh. Irritating FAGS!

I posted that in the India section... How can the average person with a $1,500 yearly salary manage that expense? That's the high end of the salary out of Delhi. They'd have to sell bikes for $500?

The average person in India can't afford these expensive bikes. However, the population is large enough for there to be a substantial number who can afford one if they want something different from their Mercedes or Lexus.

60 million people in India with an income over $8k per year. So yeah there's probably those there like in Dubai that have cash. There's a tremendous curve of poverty 95% of the people are well under the $8k with the average coming out to $1k. But as you stated, there's going to be that top tier... I like the image of the old AMF though. : )

I was asking myself what HD want to go for if the leader of the indian motorcyclebusiness council say that he see the overallmarket for Premiumbikes in India at about 500 - 1.000 bikes in 2014/2015.

But now I understand it, Mr. Wandell is a genius. Thats what HD goes for:

Solving indias transport problems.

anyone watched slumdog millionaire? The idea that HD is going to replace Buell sales and service with anything overseas is well, redundant at this point. WTF are they doing to us?? Any idea how a new HD isn't going to get stolen over there???? And if your new HD gets stolen who do you call? We all know this has nothing to do with new Indian sales, it's just that HD management took the low road, and put a knife in Buell.

It's astonishing just how often the owner's of the Stop-N-Robs around here ask me about the new Harleys. "Is it true that they really weigh 800 pounds, my goodness gracious yes?" they ask.
Say Goodnight, Royal Enfield, Harley's got you in their sights and is poised to take over.
