I've found engine de-greaser does a good job of buggering up the finish on powdercoat (hence the re-do on the pulley cover)but otherwise its pretty indestructible. Sandblasting will take it off if you've got a lot of time. Watch out for warpage from heat build-up. But my powdercoater burns it off at a higher heat than puts it on.
And its only five more days til SPLASH!!!

I have given up attempting to salvage my WP exposed spring shock on my S1, and asked the dealer to order me the recall shock. After conferring with the Buell warranty department they have determined that I am entitled to Service Bulletin B-024B which will get me the 99 vintage Showa shock with the ugly brace. If I want to get SB B-035A which is the current vintage shorter shock, I HAVE TO PAY $500!! I can't believe this. Is this right? Does anyone know any intelligent people in Buell customer service (acknowledging that they are probably all HD clones and we have lost the Buell caring people.)

Thanx, DaveT

Steve

quote{ I owned a powder coating shop for a number of years and powder is an insulator so will retain heat.
For parts that get hot (brake, engine, etc.), the product to use is Gun Kote which is manufactured by KG Industries, their web site being www.kgcoatings.com.
It's pretty simple to use as it's degrease, blast with sand or aluminum oxide, hot iron phosphatize if you have access to it, spray the Gun Kote and then bake it in an oven for an hour at 300-350 degrees depending upon the substrate.
The black Gun Kote dissipates heat faster than the other colors and Gun Koted parts cool faster than uncoated or powder coated parts.
A word of caution: Gun Kote contains all sorts of toxic stuff (lead and MEK for starters) so wear gloves, long sleeves and a respirator.
}}

Thats exactly what I'm doing ,Gun Kote is a pain to use but its bulletproof when applied and it has this industrial satin look to it

The wp was the recalled shock, safety recalls are in effect for life. There should be zero charge for this. I know some folks will claim its a $100 price they had to pay, but per the NHTSA board safety recalls are for life & cant be charged for.

Course if you are complaining just because you dont like the one with the brace & its free, then its a non issue, so never mind:D

I'm complaining because they want to give me a RECALLED SHOCK! So you suggest I let them put the 99 vintage Showa on with a brace, complain that it is ugly and make them do it again?

Here's some pilot humor. A creative type could easily adapt this for Buells...

A treatise on the process of comparative analysis of the dissimilarities between women and airplanes.

Airplanes usually kill you quickly, a woman takes her time.

Airplanes can be turned on by a flick of a switch.

Airplanes don't get mad if you do a "touch and go".

Airplanes don't object to a preflight inspection.

Airplanes come with manuals to explain their operation.

Airplanes have strict weight and balance limitations.

Airplanes can be flown any time of the month.

Airplanes don't come with in-laws.

Airplanes don't care about how many other airplanes you've flown before.

Airplanes and pilots both arrive at the same time.

Airplanes don't mind if you look at other airplanes.

Airplanes don't mind if you buy airplane magazines.

Airplanes expect to be tied down.

Airplanes don't comment on your piloting skills.

While both can unquestionably transport a man to undreamed of heights of pleasure, lifelong companionship, undying love and affection; the following is nevertheless an undeniable truism ............. they have one further thing in common -

when they go quiet it's usually not good.

New Buells--Yeah, the XB12R has a nice increase in torque and HP, but where are the models for bigger guys or for sport-touring? The same bike with longer stroke and a black frame isn't enough to improve Buell sales.
I love my S2 (I'm 10,000 miles into a 14,000 mile summer trip), and I've been a big fan of Buell since the early 90s, but IMHO if they don't make bikes that appeal to the needs of someone other than pure sport riders, then dealers and the brand are going to continue to suffer.

Ya, I agree, the bikes look good on screen. I'll have to see one in person to size it up.

Monster masher? Hahahahah!!! We'll have to see how it stacks up against the S4R, let alone just a S41000DS.

Sorry, but neither bike diminishes my attraction to the DucSS. The XB's may have more HP and torque on paper and scoot through a corner a bit quicker but down the road, the DucSS just fits better, especially since I installed the CycleCat risers!!
