Blake, they teach the 3 H's in flight training.

Hot, High and Humid.

All combine to work against your efforts to fly an aircraft....

Worst case type scenario? Take off from a 10000 MSL runway on a 110 deg. F. day with high humidity. Good luck. ;)

Hmmmmm. You guys are complicating my plan.

1. Open throttle, run up through the gears.

2. Hit NOS button.

3. Win.

Chop, I have the service manual for the 99 S-3, what is it you need to know?

Woops, almost forgot. I did a run up in 4th gear, using the GPS to check speedo error. At redline in 4th I was indicating 178 mph on the speedo, and 160 on the GPS.

According to the book, the gear ratio for the Gix is: 4th 1.450 (29/20)
5th 1.304 (30/23)
6th 1.208 (29/24)

Blake can you do the math from this info to calc. my top speed? The secondary reduction ratio is 2.47

Theres no way I can do cams or any internal mods, I'm way to dumb stupid for that. My best hope would be to figure out how to cheat.

178 in 5th, 192 in 6th, assuming it can reach redline in those gears.

Now take away the wheelspin.

Chop,
At 30k I decided to service my swingarm for the first time and replace the isolators. Not only did the originals look fine but the grease in the bearings looked brand new. I guess it is good for another 30. I did replace the intake seals since some other poster mentioned theirs looked a little burned.
The only other maintenance that I've done is change the oil regularly, lube the cables and of course changed tires a few times. I did replace the steering bearings since the lower ones were a little worn and replaced the wheel bearings to get rid of the stock ones made in Turkey.
When I first got mine and heard these war stories I was afraid that I may be spending a lot of time working on my bike, instead I just get to spend a lot of time riding it.

Hey Joplin, let us know how it went with the S2.

Maybe Court mistyped when he made the remarks about the M2...he really meant to say S2?

If it runs and it's straight, it's worth the effort to bring it up to speed!

FMJ - I ran the 3 mile course. Pretty funny really. Had time to wave to the pits. Started getting serious, and tucked down, at about 1.5 miles.

Got me the service and owners manual for my 99 S3. Was ust wanting to see if the 15k service was a "major" or if it was just and oil change. Was trying to descide on the spot whether to do it myself, or have Modesto Buell do it. Modesto made up my mind for me. They picked up the bike. Kudos to Danny for going out of his way to get my bike in for service. It needed a new rear tire anyway. Plus, the ole S3 could use a once over, she's missing a little, and I'm planning on a nice long ride for the 4th of July.

Hee Hee... how you breaking all those triple clamps Scrap? ;) That thing must be a wheelie monster... too much for a red blooded, all 'merican honest to goodness Cajun to resist?

I can see it now... the Nallin Racing big bore kits include reinforced triple clamps and upgraded steering head bearings...

Alright some may shoot me but I was talking with Jester this afternoon. He's the one thinking about parting out and S2T (#111). After looking at his ride and hearing his story I think maybe he will try and fix that beautiful bike instead of picking it's bones. Just seems like a waste to spread the parts of such a beautiful bike to the four corners of the earth!
Jesters_S2T
I offered my slightly used cylinders and some advice. So be pissed if you want, but hopefully I've saved another Buell, and a Buelligan.

FMJ,
Check out pages 79 and 79 of the current (August '03) issue of Cycle World. Nice write up and double page pic of John Noonan's bike.

The new CW also includes a very interesting techno article about engine braking and its magnitudes on differently configured bikes. Steve Anderson did an excellent objective analysis and even included a Buell in the testing. Way to go Steve! Another myth exposed.

Way to go Neil! As much as I would love to get spare body works and that lovely seat, it's much better on the original.

Alrighty then, lets all pitch in and get this S2T back in the mix!

Neil started the momentum. Lets get a parts list together and start collecting pieces.

SAVE THE S2T at work!!
