We may wind up seeing more of the races on Superbike Family than anywhere else.
I hate it when I'm wrong, but then it happens so frequently, I'm getting used to it. Pegram's show will air from 2/8-3/8 with 5 episodes. Which means none of the 2014 season will be in them.

I've followed "Superbike Family" since the beginning and have found it to be a pretty honest and low drama show.
Portrays what being on the AMA grid is like, granted Larry isn't working a job to race like several others but has shown the stresses and strains of being a team owner/rider.
This will be great for EBR's marketing, imo… I can't wait!!

Hmmm http://www.amaproracing.com/rr/events/entrylist.cf m?year=2014&eid=2014011405 Larry Pegram and Foremost Racing list the EBR 1190RS instead of the RX, as the machine they will be racing in the 6 races of the AMA Pro Road Racing series.

Re Superbike Family, the description for this Saturday's show on Velocity reads:

quote:

New. Season Premiere, "On a New Horse" Racer Larry Pegram spends big money on a new brand of motorcycle

I wonder what that new brand might be?

Its going to be last season

The story of the pressures of having to perform with "the same set up" as the Joshes( not really) and the stresses of him not having much fun in a really tough season for the industry.

Better watch it because right now,its the only AMA Road Racing we know for sure, will be televised in 2014.

Time Warner Cable was down today in Kansas City while the Superbike Family episodes aired. Pretty bummed.

Don't feel too bad - Time Warner Cable ruined thousands of people's SuperBowl Parties in the L.A. area with an outage for about hour including the halftime show when the standard definition channel went black. HiDef channel was OK tho.

Superbike Family show was about Larry's success with the R1 last year.

I hope it's not with RSracecrafters. Cory was just beginning to show some speed at the end of last year. Is it true that Larry bought the old RS bikes form last year and racing those?

I am not sure what the arrangement between EBR and Larry is, but I doubt it involves Larry "buying bikes" from EBR. More likely EBR will provide the bikes to the team. Last year Racecrafters was given the bikes. Likely they will be given or loaned. I believe the intention is to race RX's but I may be mistaken.

The teams either buy or lease the bikes. The bikes are indeed RS models. Whether they are last year's Hero race bikes or one or two of the 35 2014 RS bikes is uncertain.

^ That news is almost disappointing.. I was really hoping we'd see some of the RX's horse power under Larry.

I think you will. I suspect the RX motor can be created from the RS motor without violating any AMA superbike rules.

A: The RX motor has been in development on the RS racebikes in a much higher state of tune than what will ship from the factory to customers for all of last season.
B: The RS is a better starting point for a race it tomorrow platform than the stock RX, from a suspension and weight standpoint.
and
C: The EBRs are down on power on top but the torque of the new RX motors should put them in contention providing the riders are willing to exploit them. In AMA trim they aren't down THAT much, and rider aggression will go along way toward finding the podium. Having seen Cameron B. ride in person, that kid could put the EBR on the top step with ease. He has that kind of talent. Larry P. will have to work hard for the podium this year even with a (IMHO)better bike and support.

A couple of thoughts on superbikes back in the Daytona 200:

I'm not sure whether its an improvement in the tire technology or the fact that 2015 will see a more homogeneous set of spec's for the superbike class across the world. The bikes will be nearly identical to the EVO spec of WSBK and the machines will be much closer to showroom spec than anything in the paddocks now.

Everyone says its the biggest race of the season and that is kind of sad. The last two years it was VERY poorly attended, and even more poorly promoted. I guess you want to kick the season off with a bang, but the last two years have been more a fizzle since the next race is almost 60 days later and much of the zeal from bike week has faded. To me the race would matter more if it factored in more heavily for the championship.

The AMA seems to be grasping for life with this step. With only 6 races for 2014, DMG may well do better to separate the 200 from the rest of the series and market it more like the Indy 500. Just about all US non race fans know about the brickyard 500, and most are completely unaware that there actually is an Indy Car season series with other races at other tracks during the rest of the year. Just my opinion though.

Everyone says its the biggest race of the season and that is kind of sad.

The AMA say that they want to retun the Daytona 200 to be one of the biggest races in the world 'like it used to be'.

They forget that the Daytona 200 hasn't been a world class event since the 1970's, when Agostini, Sheene, Roberts, Saarinen etc raced there. Racing has changed a lot since then. The days when GP stars would race at stand alone events like Daytona/Imola/Ontario 200's and the like are long gone. Riders are now contracted to race in MotoGP ONLY and couldn't race at Daytona if they wanted to (which I suspect very few do).
Safety at Daytona has lagged behind other world class circuits and it is now nowhere near safe enough to run a world class event unfortnately. If you make it safe by installing bigger run off areas etc you lose the nature of the banked oval sections, so effectively lose the race.

maybe they should go back to racing on the beach and build from there.

They forget that the Daytona 200 hasn't been a world class event since the 1970's,

To put it another way, an Indy Car season here in the US, normally has about 18 races. A hardcore Indy fan might be able to name ten, the casual fan maybe two. However the Indy 500 gets National and International press coverage and even non race fans know something or have at least heard something about it.

Daytona is the one event and track where DMG has total dominion on promotion, rules and ect... yet it has been the last two times I was there as poorly promoted as say a Miller or Barber and with about equal attendance. RIGHT in the middle of BIKE WEEK!?!? Unacceptable!

OK so you(DMG) don't have the marketing know how or budget to make the world or at least the USA, invest interest in the whole series, for crying out loud market well enough to get them to invest in the one "Historical","Biggest" most "Important" race of the year. IT's your home track!

The new spec superbikes will be closer to stock and while outright speeds and lap times might be slower I think the racing will be closer and more entertaining.(At least until next year when the factories up the hardware war). I have my doubts about the tires since even stock super bikes these days are putting out enough power to necessitate traction control. But hey, its Daytona, just like Indy, the danger is part of the mystique of the race.

The official entrants list has Pegram having listed the RS which is also currently already homologated for AMA. I hope they do race the RX, not that we will get to see it on TV or anything though?
