From Roadracing World:
http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=2 9617

I just talked to Ritchie, Shawn is stable at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Apparently he hit the wall feet first and suffered a multiple fracture to this right femur and a fractured left hip along with a dislocated shoulder. He had surgery to pin the femur and will be in the hospital a few more days.

Wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the update. Damn, that had to hurt. Best wishes to Shawn.

BTW, you can send him an E-card at the hospital at this address:

I was at their pit when the crash happened. Didn't see the crash, but the aftermath was sure scary. We didn't know if there was anyone near the burning bike or who all was involved. That bike went up like a torch. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Shawn and Brian.

Great to hear about Shawn! Anyone have any news on Brian? I live in Des Moines (where the hospital is) and haven't seen anything in any of the local press or on any of the web sites.

"Apparently he hit the wall feet first and suffered a multiple fracture to this right femur and a fractured left hip along with a dislocated shoulder."

It sure sounds like a scary place to race motorcycles...too scary.

i was going to go to that on saturday night. had to work all day though and wasnt up for paying 30-40 bucks just to get in for a couple hours. they said i couldnt just get tickets to the motorcycle race. i have yet to make it to the track but it sounds like it might be an interseting place to ride to say the least.

makes me wonder how the track day i hear is coming up later will go.

Thanks to everyone for the ecards! It was nice to see Shawn smile. He is pretty bummed for obvious reasons. He will not be able to start pt for 2 weeks because of the shoulder. The left hip is broken and right femur compounded in 2 places. Also a butterfly fragment in the femur. He will be off the track for some time.}

Parriott's concerns were obviously valid.

This "Edmondson" character is a real prince. From RRW...

quote:

.
.
.
"What happened was unfortunate but it had nothing to do with the topic of discussion earlier this weekend," Edmondson said.

Am I missing something? : ? Hitting the wall in the banking was exactly what Brian Parriot was concerned about. From RRW...

quote:

.
.
.
“We’ve pulled out of the race,” San Jose BMW lead rider Brian Parriott told Roadracingworld.com via cell phone Friday evening. “It’s too dangerous for a motorcycle to go around this f—king place. We’re going around a Turn One and Two banking situation similar to that of PIR [Phoenix International Raceway], is what it reminds me of.”
.
.
.
“It’s real bad,” Parriott said of riding his 117-horsepower BMW R 1200 S around Turns One and Two of Iowa Speedway’s 7/8-mile Tri-Oval. “Lots of lean angle, knee on the ground, top of fifth gear and no protection on the wall whatsoever, no haybales, no nothing. You enter about mid-bank and then swoop down to the bottom. Then on the exit you come all the way out to the wall again.

Blake. That's why Brian didn't ride. Shawn chose to ride.
I sat in on the Rider/Owners meeting. It wasn't so much what Brian said. It was the way he decided to present it to the media
and the back alley way he tried to get other teams to agree with him. Needless to say, they didn't.
It's all about personal choice.

I had a meeting with Roger Edmondson after I talked to Shawn and felt comfortable that he was going to be ok. Roger assured me we would not come back to Iowa unless changes were made. It really is a shame the track is an issue. We have never been treated any better than we were in Iowa. It was awesome. Shawn and Danny signed autographs until they ran out of posters.I can see both sides. I will leave it at that. What I don't want to see is Moto-St get a black eye from this. They are on track to make motorcycle racing in America what it should be. We all have made poor choices. As it turns out it was a poor choice to allow my riders to race. Also looking back it was a poor choice to race the track in Iowa. But we can not change that now. Lets just be thankful Shawn is alive and lets all look forward to him kicking some ass on the RMR/Daytona HD Buell 1125 next March in Daytona!!!

Card sent, don't forget to send one to Brian Kcraget.

To add insult to injury, Richie Morris Racing was DQ'ed for not reporting to the post race dyno.

Thanks for the posts and information. It's always upsetting to hear reports of crashes, especially when you know the people involved. I've ridden with both of them at track days and Brian lives here in my home town. They are both great people and hopefully they will be back "on track" soon.

The bike was delivered to impound by the dyno. However it was too badly damaged and burned to run on the dyno.

Shawn is home now. It will be a long road back. He will be in a wheel chair for a while. I will try to have him in Daytona for the final race.
