Whew....I could buy a bunch of bearings and the tool to change them for $500.

What's a destroyed swing arm, brake rotor, brake caliber, rear wheel, tow job, and ruined trip cost?

Seems like a pretty reasonable price to me.

I get about 6 or 7 months out of them.

Court thank you for the pics!

Why would anyone buy a used wheel of questionable design, for $200, when a new "proper" wheel can be had for another buck-seventy?

If you are riding another model, the bearings are probably not a big issue. It would be nice to have an extra wheel.

Why does ANYONE buy a used XB wheel?

Teeps, perhaps someone has several Buell's, all use the same wheel, and likes to minimize downtime by having an alt set of wheels for fresh rubber. Also this person recently attempted to cube their bike, and is in need of (mainly the front) wheel. : )

Thanks Court, that takes out some of the mystery. I don't think that's a lot of money for what you get. I know it's relative and all, but I've built choppers that the PM wheels alone were $2,500. Are these wheels really magnesium?

Magnesium color. The real Buell Magnesium wheels are about $1k each.

But of coarse, that seems so obvious now. The color. I feel like inspector Clouseau.

Who cares?

I may have the world's largest collection of Buell wheels sitting all over my office anyway . . . one more won't bother me much . . . I'll sit it here next to all the old S-1 prototype brake rotors and race ECMs.

The ULYSSES wheel is NOT Magnesium. It's color is named "Magnesium Tone".

I currently have two sets of wheels, complete with rotors and pully.

I keep a sharp eye on my bearings, and I've never had one completely fail. I have had one replaced under warranty, and the one in my factory rear wheel (the one that was replaced) is starting to get pretty bound up (no rust or any damage I can see though). But the black R wheels I have seem to not have an issue. Strange.

I have to check the paperwork at work....but I think the *only* bike that gets the 3 bearing setup this year is the Uly (X and XT).

I think.

Court could very well sell that wheel to someone with an S or R model.

Or...to me. I haven't had a single issue with my wheel yet, and having a spare rear for a PR2 for road trips (as opposed to my D616 "mud" set) might be an idea....

RB- it's also used on the 1125 (someone posted all the 2010 updates from the "technical forum" document in the 1125 forum); not sure about the other XB's.

First off, we are all indebted to you for the wheel info Court. (Of course this is amongst many other things.)

As to the price of the wheel, well worth it for peace of mind in my world. It might be fine to have a bearing fail if all you do is ride locally, but tell me what you would pay after having a bearing fail 500+ miles from home.

I don't think that the price of the upgraded parts, and any tools required, comes anywhere close to the price of peace of mind knowing you've got more and bigger bearings AND outer seals back there.

I wouldn't want to see the cost of those same improvements from the Big Four or BMW if they were required. And retrofit capability?

Thanks again BMC for actually listening to your customer base.

How come I don't see any of the installation pics?
I do see a pic of the bearings and seals on a table as well as a pic of the manual.

Well, there is the one photo I clipped showing the bearings, seals, and spacer. Evidently the mystery part in the photo is a "seal spacer" for the sprocket side (?) external seal.

+2 Keith. As best as I can make out from reading all this and not seeing Courts pics need to purchase bolts for sproket+washers and rotor seperatly and also need to install the bearings because they do not appear in the manual pic to be pre-installed in the wheel? Inquiring minds need to know.

Well if the bearing do not come pre-installed (as I can't see the pictures)...that would be good news for me. That way I can have the wheel powdercoated to match my other wheels, then insert the bearings.

That is what the pictures indicated. Wheel innards were loose, but the valve stem looked to have been pre-installed. Bolts and washers being a separate line item on price indicates that they were required to be purchased separately.

if i remember correctly, the wheel bearings on the tube buells could only be changed a couple of times before it was new wheel time... i wonder if thats still true on the xb model wheels?

Werewulf, I have heard the same about the XB wheels. I don't know anybody that has changed the rear bearings more than 3 times, so who knows.

No problem . . I posted a table of the total cost and all the purchased parts. I bought new fasteners and washers in addition to the wheel kit.
