It looks like F1 is changing their rules, as explained in this video:

At least they're trying to stay exciting. The little "turbo boost" feature should increase the passing, and used judiciously can be a real game changer.

"The drivers have more influence, we have to do the right things at the right time."

Less downforce, more power, better aerodynamics for overtaking, tires that give the driver better control.

Yes, somebody woke up.

Thanks for sharing that video!

So what your saying is compare open wheel cars to motorcycles??? Those cars are alot safer then the bikes.

If safety is the primary concern in motorcycle racing, I propose the following formula for the premier class of the world championship:

50cc
4-strokes
traction control
ABS
8 horsepower limit
Speed governors set at 35 mph
200 meter run-off composed of McDonalds playground balls in all turns

We would probably have very close racing, and injuries would be kept to a minimum. I would feel very warm and fuzzy knowing that the riders were in very little danger.

You want to see an exciting race? Go see the Springfield Mile. All other races pale in comparison.

I didn't realize GP racing was boring, I learn something everyday.

Question. Who was the first and only women to qualify and race in a GP race (500cc) she also finished in the top 10 at Daytona one year?

Elena kicks ass but I think she's a bit young to have raced a 500.

It wasn't Elena.

Try Gina Bovaid, the French Gran Prix in 1984, I don't remember what year she finished in the top 10 at Daytona.

Published today: New cost cutting measures announced by FIM for 2009 MotoGP include the following two items:

4. Launch control system is not permitted.

5. Electronic controlled suspension is not permitted.

Both of these will also put the rider in more of an active role.

The part I'm not happy about is the elimination of Friday practice. My weekend in Indianapolis just got shorter...

And I think the elimination of those electronics are a good rule. Now racers are very capable of trashing the clutch a the start. They will have to work around poor suspension setup. But I think traction control will stay.... huge safety measure.

Another great video of the same battle.
Shorter but more close-ups/on-board shots.
These guys are all but swapping paint.
Sure.... anyone could do this.

I failed to find the boring in those two clips. Maybe it's just me, though.

That's great racing, too bad it's only a couple of times each season.

Racing like that used to be normal, now it's the exception. It wasn't unusual for three or four bikes to fight in the front pack.

If you like that clip, get the 1990 or 1991 season in review and you'll find that nearly every race had that kind of action at the front, not just a handful of races in the entire season.
