Now the dust has settled on my 2008 tour of Texas I have my eye on California. I have 2 weeks and want to ride the most memorable roads I can in that time taking a loop from San Francisco or LA. Any ideas? Also where is the best place to rent? In a perfect world I would take an XT but an HD would be OK too. Thanks. Dick |

www.pashnit.com The best sight l've found for discovering the best roads in Northern CA. l think they are expanding to cover southern CA, too. Very detailed maps and directions. l met the creator of Pashnit at the MotoGP in Laguna. Very cool guy. |

If you happen to be in the Northern cal area the first monday of the month, come on by ASBN. The first Monday of the month, 6 pm, San Leandro. The folks there can set you up with some roads. REX http://www.americansportbikenight.net

Hey Dick, sounds like a great ride. I'm in the S.F. bay area, some great roads out here. I would talk to EZBlast. He was telling me off some great raods he has mapped out. Problably farther north than you will be going, but hwy 36 Mt. Lassen is beutiful. Let me know when you get up this way. |

Dick yes please come to ASBN as Rex suggested. Our shop is at the Infineon Raceway which sets right in the middle between the Napa/Sonoma wine country. I am sure EZBlast has a mapped route or two in the area. We have at least three that can start from the shop with twisties for as long at you have time. We have a nice 200 mile loop with some of the best in the area. Have fun Terry JT&S Performance |

For my money I'd head north zig-zagging across the Sierra Nevada as many times as possible as you head north(Sherman Peak Pass - best kept secret of all time, Hwy 120 - Tioga Pass - through Yosemite, Hwy 108, Hwy 4, Hwy 88, etc. Go east of Bishop into the White Mtns and see the bristle cone pines. Literally thousands of mile of excellent roads and that's just between Bakersfield & Sacramento. Or head to the coast as others suggest. 2 weeks is not enough. 2 years will just get you started. As screwed up as this state is, it's got some of the best rides anywhere. |

LOL - 2 weeks - the guys are right hit www.pashnit.com and just pick one route that connects to another - your only goal the hotel you plan to stay at that night or room - I have an extra - so do others - two weeks of riding in Cali is a mission where you never have to touch the same road twice - my favorite type of ride! A long time reader of pashnit.com - when it was just a traveling guide news letter. The first sets of maps are this years SLO ride, coming back up the coast hw1 to Santa Cruz and then cut diagonally to home. EZ |

Thanks to all you guys for the tips, I knew I could count on some good input. Think I have enough ammo to sit down with my good friend mr Zumo and sketch something out. |
