How do you set the gap on Iridium plugs? Friggin' nine dollars a piece and I broke the little electtrode tit on the first one I tried to open...... any ideas? | ||

Big hammer... repair broken electrode with super glue. trust me... I have lots of tools!!! COME BY MY DAMN HOUSE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!!! | ||

Sam... I am off Friday... BUT... you should reword the question next time... I am a federal employee... the question is not... "Are you working Xday?"... is should be... "Are you GOING to work Xday?" I have 491 days until I can retire... and they are going to have to fight me every day to get any work out of me!!! I did the 16 to 20 hour days for years... none of it overtime... all salary... I am ahead of the game... and I am pacing myself towards retirement!!! I gotta go to work... but getting any work out of me is an entirely different subject! An example... TODAY... They are set at the factory for the correct gap for your bike - 0.045 I think it is - check their sight or Sparkplugs.com for verification - if they are not set to their number - send them back - they say they cannot be reset by hand - doesn't mean you can't - just that you'd have to be real carefull cause they'll break easy - lol GT - JBOTDS! I am replacing the existing plugs with what Nallins put in the motor when they built it. I have a problem now with the bike running real lean at idle. Turning the front headpipe red after a minute at idle. I pulled the plugs to check them and it looked like the electrode "tit" had melted away. If you've never seen a Iridium plug (neither had I) the electrode looks like the stylus on an old record player.....tiny.... so I thought they were burned up...... got a replacement set plus a couple at the auto parts store and after I loked at them the "tit" is still tiny on the new one's so that's why I was asking, the gap is real tight. It seems impossible to be able to set them yourself without some kind of special tool. I broke the first one I tried. Right now they measure 26 thousandths...... | ||

Sounds like your following their recommendation for your bike which is incorrect - since that plug cross references to the old 6R12 style plug - too hot. The IX27B cross refferences over to DPR9EA-9 (10R12) and is gapped at 0.35 (Nallin runs them straight from the box - if the gap is incorrect from what they set - they say to send it back for them to replace/regap) - funny thing though - they're racing version of the 10R12 is IXU01-27 and it is gapped at 0.24 - wonder why? - the $30.00 plug - lol Got Thump?!
