Finally got myself a laptop. My own computer, not to be shared. So I'm wondering what kind of cool programs do you all have?

If you have a laptop the first thing you need is to set up a wireless network in you home.

Use www.slickdeals.net to find cheap prices on routers and, well, everything.

I take off whatever crap antivirus is preinstalled, and install AVG Free from grisoft.com, Spybot S&D, Firefox (With the only toolbar being Google Toolbar), if it doens't have MS Office, I install OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org, for a free photoshop tool, install GIMP.

Can ECMspy be downloaded for free? where if so?

Heard good and bad things about AdAware, Not sure if I'm gonna use it just yet.

Open the app, then select the options menu, from there, choose language from drop down menu.

Vista or XP? If Vista, set yourself as a standard account, and you will be good to go.

If XP, get Nod32 Antivirus, AdAware, Spybot.

Also Paint.net is a good free Photoshop knockoff.

+100 on Mozilla Firefox. You won't pick up half the Net nasties that IE will give you.

AVG free antivirus. Kicks the most ass of any free antivirus software.

If you're artistically inclined, Photoshop Elements. Handiest $100 I ever spent. And get a small Wacom tablet for it for another $100. Once you go tablet, you never go back.
