SPLAT !!

I got my first great big soft body bug in the face today. It would have hit me right between the eyes if not for the shield.

It was all yellow and gooey on the inside and made a nasty mess indeed.

ive had two birds,, my brother got a bat,, an ive gotten just about ever type of bug you could imagine,, the worst, trying to ride home with heat stroke, nauseous already and still 45 minutes out. took a bee in the face threw the open shield on my full face, he wedged between my cheek and the helmet. unfortunately he was still alive. started to sting the hell out of me. people behind must of thought i had gone nuts beating my helmet that way. got it out and mad it to my "at the time " girlfriends house. got off the bike, laid down in the lawn and passed out. woke up 4 hours latter in her bed.

Having had a wasp get into my helmet at speed through an open face shield, I know the feeling. Luckily, the wasp was too stunned to do anything before I got the helmet off. I leave the shield closed now.
Thought I was doing well on the cruise in Fla when I saw a large flying bug in time to tilt my head and dodge it. May not have been the best plan, though, as the wife was really not impressed when it hit the center of HER faceshield. The bruises on my back healed fairly quickly. Still gets mad when I laugh about it........

bees are definitely bad... but the worst for me was when i rode through a half-mile-wide swarm of mosquitoes last summer... i was covered head to toe in bug guts! they were so thick i literally could not see through the visor! i managed to wipe a small area clear but had to ride over 20 miles like that until i could reach a gas station. it took a week to get all the dead bodies off my jacket.

You should try riding during the 17 year cicada hatch! Big bugs, and literally millions of them. I've hit birds, bugs and a dog. The dog luckily was already dead and lying perpendicular to my path. I was behind a semi in a heavy fog and didn't see the dog until just before contact. Nothing quite like getting launched into the air at 50 mph. (yeah, I know too fast for fog)

I took a dragon fly through an open visor once... It was only really bad because he was big and still alive. He didn't bite me, but it was pretty freaky having a 3" long bug flopping around near my left ear. I took a bird to the shoulder at about 110 once... That hurt...

riding alongside a corn field one summer wearing an open face helmet 'something' hit me square in the eye--ripped my glasses off and flat out blinded me for a few seconds until the tears washed the splatter out and by then I was mid-curve on the wrong side of the road!!

PUCKER!!!

Managed to get off the road safely under heavy tearing. My riding partner was concerned but laughing at me standing there, tears running down my cheeks swearing like an angry demented banshee with gooey bug guts all over my face!! Left me with a red eyeball and a colorful shiner for awhile.

Full-face shield down!

had a bird wedge into the corner of an open face helmet. very exciting! hit in the chest with a half eaten granny smith apple thrown from a school bus. 1 large dog and one small cat, love bugs so thick your bike looks black and a nice sized piece of reread thrown into the air by the car i was following on the freeway! that one hurt. and i try not to think about the cadillac grill i hit that was still attached the the rest of the cadillac. ouch.

I had an angry bee in my helmet once. The visor was cracked open. This guy bounced off the chinbar and flew right in. Scared the crap outa me as I have mild allergic reactions (a swollen face for a couple weeks would not have been cool). Luckily it made it's way out without stinging me.

By far my worst bee sting was when I was traveling though the sandhills of Neb. and one went up my nose and stung me. Instant water to the eyes. Pulled over to the nearest parking lot and spend the next 5 minutes blowing "snot rockets" and sticking my finger up my nose and digging. You get the picture... not a pretty sight. When every thing calmed down, I realized I was in a highway patrol parking lot, right in front of their picture window. LOL NO one came out to see if I was ok! Didn't blame them! By the time I got to my folks in South Dakota, the left side of my face was so swollen my left eye was close.

Well, other than getting a Bee in my helmet and smashing it from the outside as it crawled around my head which I am sure entertained the surrounding traffic, I like being whacked in the forehead with those hard and nasty June Bugs.

Got a yellow jacket in my helmet, managed to flip the visor up and the bastard flew off. no sting, thank god. But the worst was riding at night with the tinted visor up and hit "something" smelly. Smelled soooo bad almost like poop but it was some kind of juicy bug. Hit my right cheek and exploded on the whole side of my face.

I got whacked in the chest at about 85 by a bird once. That was fun.

My first high speed run ever after I got my first bike yeilded me a bee in the adams apple.

Last year, a big assed hornet hit my neck, went down my jacket and stung me on the gut.

We should outlaw flying creatures. They are a danger.

I was doing over 110 one day on a barren stretch of road and had turkey vultures scatter just before I went by. One flew within inches of my head. I plastered my head against the gas tank and was very relieved to not hit it.

somebody recently posted a similar story to this, so I know I'm not alone...

I had a very unpleasant experience once when a wasp hit me in the chest...not the unpleasant part

he (or she I guess) then fell down between my legs...again, not the unpleasant experience

he/she/it then proceeded to sting me in a nether region that was never intended to come into contact with barbs/stingers/sharp objects of any kind...that was the VERY unpleasant experience

...maybe he wasn't able to get a full shot at me through the slacks I was wearing at the time, but oh boy did it hurt...it had me dancing around on the side of the road for a while...

The best one for me was on a bicycle. I was cruisin' down a hill doing about 45 when a bird decided to try to cross in front of me. It hit my wheel and got caught between the spokes and the fork. What a mess. There were bird feathers everywhere and all over me. The bird did not fair well. Besides being forcefully plucked it also broke its neck.
