Hi Folks, recently bought a S1 white lightning. Although the carbon fiber rear hugger is pretty cool... It's a bit too bulky for my taste. Any chance if rear huggers from later models fit to the specs of this bike?

Thanks in advance,

current rear hugger

i should mention that i don't want to alter the current hugger... i'd rather jus sell it. Its a fine piece of carbon fiber.

The '99-'02 pieces fit the aluminum swing arm and will not fit the steel ones without mods. That said, there are several aftermarket carbon variants for the steel swing arms floating about.

The S2, early S3, and early M2 all had a non-plate-mount hugger that fits the steel swingarm. Look for something that fits '95-'98 steel swingarms. You will find some CF, and a lot of Vylon (black texture finish).

If you sell the one pictured, contact me. Please...DO NOT hack it up. My advice to you - keep it with the bike, even if you don't keep it ON the bike. It's part of what makes an S1...an S1. They are exceedingly rare, and gorgeous pieces of art.

American sportbike has the best aftermarket carbon. More expensive than the crap on ebay. But the stuff on ebay is...crap.

Your tastes will evolve. You'll eventually learn that all the bobbed rear-ends, with the high license plate, look stupid. You'll wish you left that hugger in place. Mine has never been on the bike in the time I've owned it. The stock piece is going back on, the next time it's up on the lift and I have a spare 15 minutes.

I couldn't decide so currently I have a 96S1 with the stock fender in CF like posted above and a 98S1W with the short hugger and the high license plate... like the commercial...AND is always better than either or....

I always thought these were beautiful, but wondered where they fit into the unsprung weight thought process

They fit in the "not noticeable on the street or at all" category IMO. these are VERY light.
