Shane..How the hell are you??? Glad to see you bit the bullet on this.
Looking for some good roads to get up there. Freeway from the bay area, about 250 miles and a little over 4 hours.
I mapped out a great route.......520 miles and 13 hours.

Should be able to get a group from around here and So.Cal to ride up. So many roads and so little time.............

Ride safe...Jack

Hope your rally went well. We're not riding much up here. But its time to think of spring. How can we get this thread back on track? Moderators?

Well, here's what I know. I spoke with Rex briefly on this subject at the December meeting, and the ASBN meeting slated for Jan 6 is the one where next years events will be discussed. I plan to be there and can help round this up.

One topic is destination - initially in this thread, Nor-Cal was discussed, which I don't have a problem with - we have a lot of great roads up here, and I know an extremely motorcycle friendly campground in Livermore, but I am thinking that a cool destination for this S2 rally would be Buellton - I mean, with a name like "Buellton", it seems a natural. There are a lot of good roads down there in Santa Barbara area, and that would put the destination about equidistant between the Norcal and Chandler ASBN groups.

Thoughts?

would be a great area. Nice roads. there is a cool motorcycle museum there too. could also do some coast riding.

the brag group did an official ride there once. starting in san diego, going up the coast, then to Modesto, then to yosemite, tahoe, then over to the bay area, then up the coast to the top of california. 1800 miles. that was an adventure. Buellton would be cool. then maybe riding up to SF, great shots there, across the bridge, etc. then up to tahoe, reno, great riding there too. Just thoughts. REX

As the first person to have ever taken a Buell to Buellton . . . . I think it'd be a great idea. It'd be my 19th Anniversary since taking the LOA S2 there.

I've got nieces and nephews in the area. Plus north to Boise.

I'm in at this time. Still sorting out my "squeek" which occurs when rolling to a stop or starting out to about 30 mph! Hopefully something as simple as a belt, primary chain adjuster, or wheel bearings.

Steve - You may already suspect this-but that's the same noise I got on my S2 before I discovered my needle bearing race on the drive pulley was walking off the shaft.

Belt was most likely too tight from PO, so Buellistic sent me his belt tension and primary chain info, just need to find the time to do it. Great information..thanks again Lafayette!

Haven't fixed it yet so hasn't been ridden since then. Almost no miles put on it since I bought from PO. Grrr...

In the spirit of thread homolgomation, here is a link to the thread straight from the Olde school archives

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/721232.html?1386535013

Weaverville was the original discussion, and Essmjay had identified a block of rooms there. Weaverville to Buellton is ~650 miles if you go the pretty route. Weaverville is also great country.

We need to work on a date. I'm in for wherever, and, like I said, I can work with ASBN crew - Jon is another S2 rider, and his is really pretty.

An open question - how long does everyone have? - are we planning a weekend get together (a.k.a a destination ride) or a multi day rally? If the latter, a route from Weaverville to Buellton would traverse a lot of nice county...along with a few large quantities of suck. To do it in one day, going the pretty route, is on the far outer extremes of what I consider fun and edging up on the sort of riding you do in a MERA race. Two days would be quite leisurely, time to stop, take pictures, bench race or whatever.

If we can post thoughts here, we should have a consensus of what this should look like by the time ASBN has the planning meeting in January.

As I'm traveling some distance, I'm planning for multi-day riding with the gang.

So it sounds like we'll be starting off at Weaverville. Looks like a cozy town!

I'll break away when we get down close to Santa Barbara then, hopefully, catch up with whatever S2 riders I can find after an evening with my nephew (need to pre-plan this part obviously). If anybody is riding south from there, I'm heading to LA to see other relatives, then down to Oceanside to see my USMC Gunny nephew who lost a leg in Afganistan a couple of years ago.

We ought to make a daily list for start/stop meet up's at a local restaurant/bar. I'll be the handicapped one...I don't have a mobile phone or GPS! But I know how to talk with people still and can figure it out from there

Buelljunkie...thanks for the tip

I'm excited.

As per the original thread, Weaverville the weekend of the 28th, 29th was favoured. If there is more buy-in with a meet in the south, carry on. For myself, I could see riding south from Weaverville before turning around. Meeting in the south puts me out of range. That said, unexpected financial issues may cancel my vacation plans altogether, making my preferences moot.

Its not set up except in that Shane suggested the place. Hasn't made any arrangements there yet. After 2012's ride to and from Deal's Gap, we've resolved not to spend every day of our vacation on the road from sun up to sun down. And always, no Interstates. So we're looking at four 250 mile chunks over 6 days on hwy 97 to get to Weaverville. A couple of days in Northern California, heading south, if that's the plan. Then back the same way, or along the coast. That's an enjoyable two weeks for us, two-up.

Just my two cents...This is Shane's event to plan. Please respect that. If the location does not work for you do not try to change his plans...plan your own event at your preferred location. If you want to help, contact Shane and volunteer to help him with his plans. Again just my two cents...coming from attend a few of these and hosting one too.

Looks like most favor the 28-29 of June 2014. That is what I will shoot for too.

I'll make my reservation to redhillresorts.com for the 28 and for the 29. Will the gathering then split to go our separate ways?

May have another S2 owner with me. Or a bunch as we meet up along the way for this version of "why we ride".

Yes, June 28th-29th. Accommodations block out and reservations had to wait until this month as they wouldn't schedule back when I talked to them last. I will be making the arrangements shortly for reservations as a group and will post up info when available. There have been four of these S2 rallys so far in different parts of the country. We generally ride in on thursday/friday, group ride/rides saturday followed by a group dinner, then adios'es on Sunday.

Okay- We are on for June 27-29 at the Red Hill Resort. There is a motel, duplexes, and cabins. I have cabin #8 for all three nights so if anyone else wants to ride in on thursday they won't be alone there. The phone is (530) 623-4331 and Patty is the entire staff. So don't be calling after 8pm PST as she needs to get her rest. The place has lots of multiple bed options so you can buddy up and split costs. The sooner you make reservations the better, Patty is old school and can't figure out how to hold the place just for us, but she says she shouldn't start getting other inquires until the end of this month. And also, she says bike groups are her favorite customers.
