When is it time to use deadly force on someone in a vehicle trying to kill you! Is it the first time they fly by you and try to clip you or the 3rd 0r 4th time they are swerving there truck at you.

So i am on my way to work and this pulls up right up my ass at the light and starts getting out of control behind the wheel and he is looking all over both sides of my bike trying to look at me in the mirror while i can see him moving around and swearing for no reason. I did nothing to this . So he starts yelling out the window as the light changes so i flip him the bird and burn off. End of problem right. NOT i slowed down a little because i could see the light up 4 blocks ahead wasn't changing so i was going to time it and lane split the cars in front of me to block and avoid this stupid hillbilly redneck. I didn't have time to start boxing in the street and i wasn't about to stick around to see what other thing(s) he has in his truck because i carry a .45 and it would end badly. So i tried to avoid him.....First he came flying up on me and tried to hit me. Then he's is waving his fist with a cigarette in it as he is swerving into my lane trying to hit me. On the 3rd swerve he was in distance to be punched in the mouth and i tried and i missed by an inch!! He was so surprised by the fist that he almost swerved into a parked car and i thought at that moment this and i blew the redlight and almost got hit doing this dumb ass maneuver thank god the zx10 has balls or id be in the hospital right now. I usually avoid cagers like the plague and avoid confrontation because i have a hot temper and i don't want to end anyone's life over traffic disputes but when is it time to use deadly force to save your own ass! I think i would have been justified to shoot!! What do you think about this. I should not have flipped him off but im not going to sit there while he talks shit like he is a hard ass.

Preybird- search your post and you will find the answer to your question. What might feel good at the time is not always the best course of action.

KRAP!!
Glad that neither of the cars hit you.
Prob should have waited to flip him off till you had a clear path away but that really dosent matter because that nut was outa his mind to rage like that.
Id have to say you would loose the court battle if shots were fired because you could have fled instead of confront.
A license #, vehicle description and call to 911 would take care of him, hopefully.
He can be charged with a bag load of things he did.
Discretion is needed when your exposed on a bike VS. Truck battle, you'll loose, right or wrong. Let Karma or the cops take care of Douchbags, unless cornered.

If you took the CCW training, you know that the moment you flipped him off, you "escalated" the situation and lost many of your legal protections had things continued to go south. So it's a good thing you didn't employ deadly force. You would likely be sitting in jail right at this moment, starting the long wait to see if you are financially devastated, or financially devastated and in jail.

Trying to take yourself out of the situation is always the best first course of action. And doing it in a way least likely to escalate the situation is the best way to do it.

Glad nobody got hurt.

risking your safety over words that someone says is juvenile. dumbasses are everywhere...don't let one bait you into joining the club. just get away from the threat. testosterone is a dangerous chemical. don't let it take the place of common sense.

You need a little Zen. You should just pull over and let the guy go. If he decides to pull over to then you get into what to do and that depends on your state. Whatever you do don't escalate the situation, and running just puts you and others at risk.

Azrael has it right.

However, I might just take off and leave him behind.

I don't think there are many trucks that could catch my bike if I didn't want to be caught, especially in traffic.

Get his plate pull over & let him go. If he pulls over and gets out of the truck, one in the head, one in the heart. If he's using his vehicle as a weapon once, he will do it again. If you pulled over to call police you could argue that he took away the option of escape and shooting the scumbag was justified

If i lived in the states i would let him follow me to my property and see if he dares trespass : )

Wouldn't be possible over here. Even possession of any kind gun is illegal over here

Russ,

I've been in your spot. I carry a S&W M&P9c when I ride. I had dude flip me off on the interstate, then he waved me to pass. I wouldn't. I wanted to keep in in front of me so I could see him. He jammed on the brakes. I broke hard to stay behind him. Pretty soon, he's down to 20 mph. So am I, still laying back.
I'm thinking... If this A hole comes to a complete stop. I'm gonna have to as well. Will he throw in reverse, and plow into me? Mind racing. Heart pounding!
I'm trying to weigh every option in a split second. Do I draw, if he does?

When this is all happening...I'm trying to remember the printed statement I have attached to my permit., So when the police show up, I don't incriminated myself.

Result: The A hole ended up driving away at a high rate of speed. This was not a good situation. Not for me, if I drew my weapon, and definitely NOT for the fruitcake that started this. If I'm gonna draw. I'm shooting. Nobody would've won.

Either way, I would have to hire an attorney, or my wife and child burying me or visiting me in prison.

I'm glad your ok.

Sending you a pm.....

>>> "I should not have flipped him off but I'm not going to sit there while he talks shit like he is a hard-ass."

You might as well say "I should not have flipped him off, but I'm not man enough to laugh off such fools and avoid unnecessary altercations; I prefer to antagonize and escalate the situation instead, so then I can feel more secure in my manhood and show that I am some kind of hard-ass."

I thoughtful person would be asking, "what did I do that might have aggravated the person?". It's unlikely that someone is going to behave like that for no reason.

Why would anyone be riding around with a loaded gun? Do you guys feel you have a lot of enemies, live in a high crime area or may encounter Syrian army on your way to work?
I like guns as much as the next guy but I don't think I need to exercise my second amendment rights every single day.

I have never been in any altercation on my bike as those described above, nor do I want to. Most people are pretty courteous to bikers that I observe. I try to be in return. Those that aren't I avoid, or get away from really quick(bikes can do that you know). Bikes can not win against cars except in acceleration and handling. Those that carry firearms, rocks, whatever, are looking for trouble, whether it be subconsciously or consciously. You get back what you put out in the world. Ride smart.

To those of you who are questioning the decision to carry a firearm.........If someone was "packing" in the Colorado movie theater or the sikh temple the outcome would have been completely different.
You cannot stand on your soap box and question these people's motives when its damn clear why they carry.

I have a friend that rides a bagger and on one side he has a 3 ft legnth of chain. I have seen it used one time! A dude in a car kept coming over on him and he moved over till all he had left was shoulder well that chain did wonders to his windshield and that dude locked up his brakes quick!
Probably was not the best thing but it worked

My comment had nothing to do with the right to carry. I fully support that. I'll say again, you won't win against a car. Two examples: A customer of a gas station I worked at back in the early 80's rode a KZ1300, bad ass bike. He had the same attitude as some of you, in that he carried a handful of rocks in his jacket at all times. I heard a few years later someone had run him off the road into a telephone pole. The other example is my friend who fortunately is still alive, but he used to do the same thing with the rocks. Someone ran him off the road into a ditch, he was in a coma for a week.

I'm saying if you go out in the world looking for a fight, you are going to find one, that simple.

I used to flip people off too. More times than not I regretted my response.

I'd say if you are CCW, and train regularly, you are prepared for whatever happens AROUND YOU!

Training helps one stay focused on intent and outcomes.

My military training prepared me on how to avoid conflict, if possible. Jerks come in all forms. Your job is to avoid them until they cannot be avoided and are intent on harming you or others around you. As they used to say in motorcycle training...be alert, stay alive!

3 foot length of chain? That's just long enough to get tangled in a wheel and cause you to have a very bad day. It might bounce off whoever or whatever you're bashing in an unplanned direction.

I can't believe this! Just got my bike back together after replacing my chain tensioner last night. Went for a test drive. Was cut off my a middle aged gent. I pulled up to him at the next red light, raised my shield and smiled. The dude gave me the finger! I thought of this thread and rode off laughing!!! Kinda funny.

What is going ON in this world?

Blake, you certainly are a sober fellow. Blackm2,was there anything that actually connects those riders spark plug chucking attitudes with the crimes committed against them, or is that just your assumption? Leaving them squinting at my taillight seems like the easiest thing, and i almost always do the easiest thing. In the case of someone seriously attempting to take me out,i MAY become the aggressor and try to bait them into pulling over. Occupant # matters,as does setting. I shoot right handed, but strongly prefer not to. Don't let them surprise you!
