Don't install that.

Your best bet is to install the race ECU.

Thank your friend for the power commander and wait til he's not around, smash it with a suitable sized rock.

LOL +1 on smashing it. Just flash your factory Ecm with the race map from the race Ecm. No need to spend the big money for a race ecm. I spent the money on a race ecm before i knew you could just flash the race map into the original ecm. I later upgraded the motor and the race ecm was mapped and tuned with ecmspy and i just ended up wasting money.

"smash it with a suitable sized rock."

That's rather crude, a little finesse is required for proper tuning.

D&D designed their exhaust around the Buell race map. It's already about as good as it's going to get. You can use ECMSpy to load the maps into your stock ECM, if you don't have the race ECM.

I have the race ECM on my S3 coupled with the race exhaust system, I could not be happier with the smooth power curve and output. I recently purchased a 99 X1, it runs fine stock, so why would I fiddle with a perfectly good running X1? That is my question, should I flash the spare stock ECM with the race map? If so, where would I download a race map, I have the ecmspy stuff.

I am leaning toward "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" but I love my S3 so much I want more of the same.

Thanks,

Vecchio: Your X1 has a race ECM w/all the race maps on it!

Bros5, take their advice about the Power Commander. I had one on my S3 when I bought it, it ran poorly until I took it off. They are worse than worthless.

Chris,

I had no idea, no wonder it runs so smooth and pulls so strong. As of yet, I have been unable to tweak your old bike because you sorted it out so well, all it needs is a rider. Thank You

Confession time: other than a few spirited laps of the dealership, I have yet to really ride it in anger as we have had Ice/Snow and Salty roads since it was delivered. the local H-D shop says it needs several recalls done, so they are waiting for parts from the MoCo. Since we are mid winter, I don't mind the down time.

Back to the issue at hand, yes, steer clear of the PC, they are only useful if you have a non programmable ECM like I had on my Guzzi V11 Lemans, even that was a marginal improvement that was eventually removed.
