You might check out Baldwin Saddles. Loren (Gowindward) is pretty active here and he turns out an excellent product. Can't wait to get my S2 out of the shop and try out the saddle he made for me.

Thanx Redhatbuell.I just sent them an e-mail to see if there is something they can do. I have tryed to look at their site before but it must have been down. There seats do look nice.

You might just check with a local upolstery shop. I had a seat re-coverd for a hundred bucks.

Great looking bike. I love that paint scheme on a unmolested X1!

Might want to find yourself a donor seat to send in for mods, rather than hacking up the only one you've got.

Yes..that was my plan...that way I can still ride while the seat is being done...and so I can swap seats when I want the more sleaker look.

The backrest is the big issue..not having any luck..don't think they ever made one for the X1 so I will probly be makeing my own if I can come up with a safe and secure way without having to desicrate my tail section!

Tod, This may give you some ideas on a backrest support. It's not an X1 but I have applied the same design idea into a number of different saddles.

Thats exactly what I'm looking to achieve, removable also. In fct, thats the same backrest I had in mind....Thanx Loren for your input..I actually foud a link at one time where someone did this exact same thing to an X1...but do you think I could find it again? NOOOO!

That would also work for me. Really, ANY type of backrest at this point!..It seems that every Harley dealer I contact are very slim on Buell accesories, especialy one as old as a 2000. They pretty much brush you off ad it's get pretty frustrating.

Accessories for the tubers when out of stock a long time ago. Your best bet is American Sport Bike and here and ebay or custom one off parts. If you plan on riding two up and need some luggage space take a look at the Ventura bag and rack systems. Again not cheap, but real a real nice product. They are not a back rest, but would give the misses some sense that she will not fall right off the back.

Tod,

Be aware that the X1 seat is the only one that will fit your bike, it's not interchangeable with any other model that is.

Another thing to be aware of is that the only back rest made for the bike was by Corbin, and now Baldwin. Pro-series and other Buell accessories never had that option. So not to rain on your parade, but your options are pretty limited. Making your own will prolly be the best option if you've got time, and motivation.

Loren, it's nice that you are willing to post up those links, I think it shows you are confident in your work, and honest as well.

That S2 set up seems like a practical option. I wonder if you could fab something to mount to the bottom of the cast tail piece, making a nice secure mount?

I was thinking the same thing (about the X1 tail) boring a 1"x1" square hole in the rear of the tail and tig welding a re-enforcement tube flush. Finish it off with a nice square plug when the backrest is not used. Just a thought.

Littlebuggles, It's all about helping a guy go ride with his girl on their motorbike.

If it is not built into the seat I think the S2 method above would work out well. Mounting on each side of the tail piece in front of the turn signals. The tail is hollow, so it would be easy enough to drill and through bolt a bracket on and could be removed with almost no sign of it ever being on the bike. You also don't screw up the Pegasus on the tail.

I was trying to figure out how that was mounted...but I was'nt sure how different the tail is on the S2, ie solid, hollow, plastic or tube...I am assuming it is somehow bolted undernieth...pardon my ignorence, like i said before..i'm still learning the Buells.
What I,m not sure of is the distance from the mount to the backrest..it would have to be an awfull strong mount to handle the leverage of a person leaning on it. Am I wrong?

Have her sit on the bike and lean back into a bathroom scale that you are holding firm. I think you will see the load is not really that high.

Thats true at the backtrest pad itself...but add 12 to 16 in. of leverage to that and thats alot more pressure at the mounting point. Then i'm thinking acceleration..if she is leaning on the backrest..which she does 99.9% of the time..thats even more pressure or force on the mounting point. I think it can be done easily with the right materials and be strong..the one on the S3 just dose'nt look that strong to me...but thats just from what I see in the pics...the consept has me thinking though.

Ok guys..another issue I need some advice for...I took the X1 for my first ride yesterday..About 60 miles..and by the end of the ride, the bike was idleing at about 2000 to 2200 rpm. If i let the clutch ou a little, it would idle back down and stay there. I turned the bars side to side when the idle was correct to see if it was a tight cable or something and it did not change. Could this be a TPS issue or an adjustment issue. The bike did sit for over a year before I got it if this might have any factor. This is my first injected bike so I'm not real familiar with the "quirks" if injection so I figured I'd ask before I did any TPS resets or anything. Other than that, the bike ran strong with me and my wife on it and kept up well with my buddies NightRod..(almost lost the wife on that one)
