There are one or more open safety recalls or product improvement campaigns on your vehicle. The following list contains the campaign number and a brief description:

Recall Notice: 0820: RCL:99&00 BUELL SHOCK ABSORBER

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.

My question is are they still going to do this for free or will i have to pay for it? and how long should i expect to be without my bike? Thanks

Last I heard was that there were no more shocks left to do the recall. (Not sure on this.) You should take your vin # to your local dealer and see if the recall was done on your bike. You might have some luck if you have a good dealer who is willing to work something out. But as far as shocks goes the Works or Penske are the best replacements available.

Looks like he ran the VIN and that was his message.

Recall replacement shocks are the remote reservoir Showa's we all love so much. They do tend to go out (blown seals) and are not dealer serviceable so they should be able to get new ones. (My dealer told me $750 to replace mine a year or two ago).

I don't think they are required to replace this for free anymore but have heard about some of the dealerships doing it still. Perhaps it's at their discretion...

Maybe you could try calling one of our dealership sponsors, or PM regulars like Pammy or Ratbuell and see if they can advise you better.

It was years ago but not out of the question.

The best answer is "it depends".

Call Buell Customer Service.

Being a safety recall, as opposed to a "product campaign"...your chances are good.

+1 on calling BCS. Have your VIN and your dealer info handy when you call.

Had mine done after buying my m2 last year. Dealership did it for free and even did an overall inspection of bike also no charge. The shock replacement is for safety reasons and in no way should you be denied this. Definitely contact BCS.

You will find that the Works or Penskie are a FAR Superior shock and worth the money.
But if money is a issue, go for the free replacement. Expect to have that canister shock to start weeping oil after several thousand miles.
Also ride sucks compared to the Works or Penskie.

Are recalls and such accessible online? I have my bikes registered at Buell.com, but the info available there seems minimal...

I found a link online that takes you to the H-D site and you put in your VIN and it tells you what recalls need to be done to the bike.

I just tried that link but it only comes up with the recommended maintenance/checkup. No info on any recalls done or not done.

thats weird, i put my VIN in and it stated i needed that rear shock recall done. I think if all the recalls are done nothing would show up except the recommended maintenance.

That would make sense. I was thinking that it would have shown all the recalls and something like completed next to them. Since I bought my bike from the owner of the dealership all the recalls were done already.

Neat link, but not much help for me.
2008 1125R w/ 18436 miles, next service due @ 18.6k

Site gave no reference to the front brake line Safety recall I have yet to do.
It did give me info on what I needed to do at the 30k mile service.

I haven't heard of it before this, still some bugs?

Zack

it told me I needed the shock recall but it was already done on my bike, or so I thought because my bike has the updated shock.
