it always helped me. i've been caught in the rain numerous times without any complications. from what i understand, you don't want to be caught in the rains without it though.

I have the force air filter and run the sock all the time with no trouble in the rain. Blues boy rides in the rain with out the sock with little to no trouble.

The theory behind the sock is the screen is small enough that surface tension keeps the water outside the sock, and not in your engine. Should be a-ok if you have the sock.

Let see now ???

If you keep the OEM Air Box and use the OEM snorkel to make a econo force with a
K&N filter on the end there is no rain problem no matter how hard it rains ...

PLUS you get to take add vantage of the PLENUM effect that the OEM Air Box offers !!!

thats what i did. Econo Winder, used a UNI Air filter that fit over the end of the intake tube. Found that in my opinion, the stock intake sucked as far as sealing out dirt. Now nothing can get in, except for the 2 holes (forget the name of em). I have them covered with a rubber cap on each for now. I hear they add horsepower by being left open, and throttle response. but i cant figure out how or why. also think that they would allow dirt to get in there.

although, i do want to get rid of the side panels and get the carbon fiber peices, then i would get a aluminum intake tube matching the factory style built for looks.

"i" Plugged both holes in the OEM snorkel and put BLAST PVC valves in the rocker arm covers ...

Did this before the XB's came out ...

Heavy rain will get into the intake -- when I've run the sock I've had no issues -- but it is a restriction -- we ran it both ways on the dyno and there IS a difference --

If the filter is freshly oiled, it lets in a lot less water when it's raining. My drysock blew off years ago and I never replaced it... sometimes the bike will sputter in heavy rain, but not enough to make me stop.

Dj is right.

I'v had my Force for about 10 years with no sock. Every once in a while you may hear a cough but it clears up with a little more throttle.

It doesn't happen enough to make me get a sock or not ride in the rain.

Wow, I didn't know anyone else still ran the econowinder. Of course I haven't seen another tuber in my area in a long time either.
