I've had this problem before but it went away for a while. When my bike is hot like after riding hard in hot weather or stop and go, sometimes my shifter allows me to keep pushing down and not ever go to first, almost like the shift forks aren't there. This is soon followed by getting stuck in a gear(usually 3rd). I can get going in thus gear, then I can shift normally with no problems. I find this interesting, and often problematic
