Just when I thought I had my Cyclone fixed up and dialed in just right it started misfiring at high speeds. It does it around 75-80mph when I am commuting in the morning. It does not seem as bad in the afternoon, but I do not spend as much time at high speed because of the traffic. It seems fine at lower speeds. Some theories: I live near the coast and it is cold and damp in the morning, so there may be an electrical problem. Seems unlikely as that would more likely be at low rpms. I just put a Screaming Eagle coil in her a few months ago. Could that have had the effect of advancing my timing a bit? The plugs and wires are new. I drained the float bowl. The battery is new. Everything but the coil and the K&N filter in the stock airbox is stock.

Any thoughts?

It's probably something electrical, but do you have a fuel filter? If so, try changing it and see if that cures the problem.

The SE coil won't have an effect on timing.

Since the plug wires and plugs are new, double check that the wires are seated firmly and that they don't rub the heads or any other metal parts. If the wires do touch any metal parts and you can't reposition them to not touch, wrap the area with several layers of electrical tape so as to provide a protective sleeve or enclose the wires with split spiral-wrap sleeving from an auto parts store.

Make sure the low voltage wires to the coil are not loose.
Check that there is not an intermittent break inside those wires -- give them the wiggle test (gently) with the engine idling.

Other likely ignition related causes are faulty sidestand switch, defective ignition key switch or dirty On/Off switch.

I hardwired the sidestand switch and it seemed to help, but this morning I had a couple of misfires. I am going to go through the electrical system this weekend. It was very damp this morning on I-5. Lots of fog. I am thinking moisture getting to one of the connectors or the relays.

I had somewhat the same problem and it was intermittent. One of the 2 push on wires to the coil were loose (just slightly) and all I did was give them a little crimp and cleaned them out and haven't had a belch or fart since. Hey it may not be your problem but it was mine. Stay Cool. And good luck.

I took the ignition switch apart and tugged on the wires. One came off in my hand with no real force. I tried to re-solder it in place, but wound up ordering a new one. In the mean time I have bypassed it so I have to kill the engine with the key until the new one comes in. I took it out on Sunday and tried to get it to misfire by riding at high speed on the interstate. I could not get a single misfire. I think this may have solved it. Thanks for the advice everyone.
