get home from work tonight and can't get my '03 xb9 to roll backwards at all. 2 people pushing and pulling just lifts front wheel off the ground. rolls forward fine. drives fine. no new noises. roll it forward an inch and loose an inch. no clunk or anything, just a rubberband kinda feeling when you roll back against it. seems like output shaft will only spin one way, can't feel any backlash in tranny at all.
what the hell???

sounds like your clutch is not disengaging all the way or the plates are sticking together. Does it happen with it cold or after warmed? Can you start the bike in gear with the clutch in without it jerking forward?

no. was my first thought too, grenade plate or something. but seems to be way after the clutch. put it up on stand and fired it, clutch works great, still no noises, can't tell anything's wrong. try to spin wheel backwards, oomph!

Damn near busted a gut reading the sock posting. Awhile back at work we had a feeder plug and found someones worn glove they thru away. Well they usually travel in pairs and sure as shit a bit later we found the other. Don't ride anywhere near where you had the problem you may find the other.

That is classic! I was racking my brain trying to figure out what was causing your problem yesterday, winds up being something off the wall like that - glad you get it figured out w/o too much effort.

damn, you had to mention the bit about them traveling in pairs! it's almost 5 miles around the base to get in the other gate, think i'll just keep my eyes open and keep my mouth shut to avoid embarrassment when i find the other one : )
thanks guys!
