Hey, I have broken 2 belts on my 03 XB9S in 3500 miles. This can't be normal. I took my belt guard off and I was wondering if that was the problem but I have seen lots of pics of Buells without guards and I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. Thanks.

Morgan

The guards are there because they need to be, not because we want them there. Those guards are expensive to manufacture and not simple to install in production.

We would not put them there if they did not need to be there.

Have you seen lots of XB9's running without a belt guard? The pretensioned belt cannot tolerate debris between belt and sprocket nearly as well as the older models whose belts were beefier and not so tight. Suggest you reinstall the belt guard. Also read the service bulletin on the subject of XB9 belt handling.

Blake, Thanks for the info. I didn't know that the belts on the XB9's were very different than previous Buells. I will definitely re-install the belt guard. I just wish it looked cooler.

Even older buells are sensitive to debris in the belt.
