I am planning on ceramic coating the race header I have for my 99 M2 in and out, and need to make up my mind on what to use, standard is 1300 degrees, but one place told me that they could use a 2000 degree media for the inside.

How hot do these exhausts get ? will 1300 be enough, or is the temp coming out real close to 1300, or more ?

I can't actually answer your question regarding the exhaust temps, but I've got a 2000 M2 and had the headers coated by "Jet Hot" in their sterling finish. That is supposed to be good for 1300 degrees and I have had no problems with the finish at all. Rode in stop and go a lot this summer at temps in the 90 range. It's just "My Opinion", but after seeing a video of the process I think the two different coatings you are being offered (in and out) is a line of B***S***! No connection to "Jet Hot".

I heard it from two different places that do the coating, one of them using I'd assume a generic brand ceramic coating, the other uses the Jet Hot coating(which is what I will be using) .. either way, they both are ceramic coatings. Since I heard it from two different places, I'd go along with a coating able to withstand higher temps being available. The other thing is that the finish on the outside wouldn't necessarily show if the inside was breaking down, but if the exhaust gets hot enough on the inside, it may break down the inner coating over extended time, I know it will probably last longer than I own the bike. Even still, I am looking to do whatever is going to last the longest, and the few dollars more for a higher temp capability would be worth it in my eyes.

Then again, if I could find out what the temps are coming out of the exhaust, I may be satisfied with the 1300 degree coating.

Maybe I misunderstood what you are saying. I know that different temperature coatings are offered, but my confusion lies in the statement that a different temperature coating will be used on the inside as opposed to the outside. I just checked my jet hot info and their website again, and no such service is offered. It appears that whatever temperature coating you pick is applied inside and out. This is just my observation. YMMV

Aluminum pistons melt at 1360 degrees. EGT is best kept below 1250 F.
