Wait a minute....
Have I seen ideas like these before?
Must give credit where its due... Trick suspension Back AND Front. I wonder how that reacts in hard cornering.

I like the idea of the frame slitting, allowing more air to cool the engine.

THat single sided front fork is very interesting. It just looks wrong....Cool..but wrong. Have you see the Cannondale mountain bikes with the same design. Looks like the front wheel is just gonna come right off.

Isn't that the NAS concept that Honda announced right after Buell released the XB9R?

Anybody remember the quote Erik Buell gave about that bike? ; )

Too bad Erik thought of that front suspension first.

it'd be great to see it in production, but, sigh, not likely

although Honda COULD do it, I doubt they will

Me either, not standard enough, production would be a nightmare for them, robots can't just throw those together.

Glitcherooneee --

right you are

I said the same about the Rune

Honda wouldn't be the first company to sell a product at a loss or with very small profit to generate traffic -- can you say Corvette? sure, I knew ya could ;-}

I havn't owned a Honda bike is forever, but I have HUGE respect for their manufacturing folks -- those people do some great stuff

if Honda gets into the nekkid bike biz big time, they could definately make this to get you into the store to look, and then buy a more easily build/more affordable scooter . . . . I know bunches of folks who'd get on a list to buy one if iit was limited quanities type thing

...anybody remember this? Yamaha had a production bike with single sided front suspension back in '93.

I've considered buying this bike for a sport tourer.

Glitch,

The quote from Erik was to one of the magazines that was pointing out how similar Honda's bike was to the Firebolt. It was something along the lines of "theirs is a concept. Ours is a production bike."

Even better was the initial brochure for the XBs. The text said that when other companies have good ideas they call them concepts but when Buell has good ideas they call them features. They went on to say that the XBs were real motorcycles- the kind you can actually buy.

Three years later the XBs are racking up miles around the world, the Honda is still a one-off concept bike.

The Honda is still a one off concept bike because that's what it always was gonna be, a one off concept bike.

Erik Buell can put as much spin on it as he likes, but we all know Honda have been much much busier than just that one off concept bike in all this time.

I just re-read that issue of Cycle world in the library this morning. It was at the public unveiling at Laguna Seca.
Erik's quote was "Great, Theirs is a concept, ours is going into production"

Like what has Honda done that is innovative?! A fat vtwin cruiser and overpriced fat cruiser, a fat vtec sport tourer, new fatter sport bikes. Hrmmm...The last time Honda tried to be innovative they got burned and haven't tried it since...The late 80s with the Hawk and the GB and the Pacific Coast and CB-1. Ahead of their times that era was. Now they are fat and lazy churning out the same high quality boring crap every year. In my opinion. Now Yammie, Triumph, Kwak have tried to push the envelope and have nekked bikes. Hondas nekked vtwin and 600 are sadly still carbed. Doesn't sound innovative to me.

The single sided front suspension was tried by Ducati in endurance racing in the 80's with the 750F1 bikes. Think the suspension was supplied by Paoli did not produce enough benefits to continue. Seems a bit like single sided rear suspension, looks good and maybe saves seconds on wheel changes in endurance racing but weighs more than equivalent 2 sided swingarm to counter torsional forces. Single sided front suspension, nice gimmick still.

My bad. I stand corrected...Honda always makes nice innovative stuff not available to the public. Except for that nice oval piston bikey for 50K

You know, I don't see either a radiator or cooling fins. Peculiar, that. It must be designed for short hops or maybe, just maybe it's got ceramic jugs and doesn't need to be cooled at all. Right. Hanger queen.
