Sorry, I also posted this in the Wheel knowledge vault.. but I think it will get more views here..

I am mounting new tires this weekend on my '08 XB12R and wanted to use new valve stems, a little prevention..

The Buell p/n for the stem is G0313.02A8, my local HD/Buell dealer does not have have them in stock and will take a week to get. Does anyone know if this Buell p/n cross references to a HD part number? The parts guy that I spoke to said that he does not have any documents that would allow him to cross reference the part number(Buell to HD)

Thanks in advance

Personally, I would just keep the valves you already have unless they are leaking or chewed up.
I put fresh rubber on my uly this summer and didn't change the valves.
My bike still hasn't burst into flames : )

I agree with Natexlh I have gone threw about 3 sets of tires on my XB and a few on other track bikes and never once replaced the valve stem. Buell did it right the first time and put metal in not rubber like others.

Is there an o ring rebuilt kit for these stems? There must be some rubber in there somewhere, or is it just the valve cores that have rubber?

There is a O ring in there but if it dosent leak dont touch it. I work as a Ducati Tech and out of this season alone I have replaced at least 100 tires and only 1 valve stem due to it being cracked and no returns from leaking stems.

If it's an O ring, you can probably just find one at a hardware store when the time comes. That time is likely to never come however.

Yes, But the first thing that would go out of the valve stem is the core from corrosion so just keep a few cores on hand and it should last a long time then normally they break before the orings leak just from the cap and tire press gauges and filler tanks.

Aftermarket replacements are so cheap, it's not worth throwing your hard earned dollars away. Check diameter of hole though - there ARE differences.

Like others have said though - no need to change out unless leaking.

If you need diameter, I have a bunch of wrecked wheels that I can measure before taking them to the recycler.

Thanks for the relies.. I reused the originals with no issues.. Rode about 5 miles after getting the wheels back on the bike. Once the Hurricane leaves NE I'll give the new Pilot Road 3's a decent run.
