I have been working on my 9R a lot recently trying to give it some bling. As I am working on it today the wife, (who I married only 3 short months ago) came out and appeared to be upset. We started talking and she blurts out "You love that bike more than me, don't you?" Well being the sarcastic man I tend to be I said "No honey I love you just as much as my bike." don't think that made her to happy as she walked away without saying a word. oh well she'll get over it. It was my funny for the day, and was curious who else has had that said to them.

Right before the divorce...

Go buy her some flowers, son. 3 months is still the honeymoon period, don't f*** this up over a piece of metal.

My G/F was told four years ago, that my toys come before she does. I hate to sound like a D*ck, but that's what she was told. She still makes a fuss from time to time, but she deals with it pretty well.

But trust me, I have heard it before.

420, is that the R1 you keep posting about making top speed runs on, cause im not sure id ride it if i ever saw that.

My gf knew right away that i love my bike and my firebird. she makes wisecracks about it, but she learned very quickly that if she volunteered to help me wash them, in a bikini, i was easily swayed.

She knew when she married me, My bike and my job are a priority. She's really ok with it and I am sure she was just playin around she just gets jealous sometimes. Between working 50-60 hrs a week then wanting to go riding when I get home. She will at least ride with me just doesn't like to go on long hauls.

Words of "wisdom". Get those blinders off...

Work is top prio until you're axed by some corp beancounter looking to cut cost on an excel spreadsheet.
As for bikes & metal, lifestyle and life are two distinct things so try to keep the perspective, take Barks' advice and get some flowers.

I think my girlfriend would agree with your wife, Glitch.

She knows I love the bikes, knows I love her more, and would definitely agree that anything I sink anywhere near that level of effort and care into had better be inanimate if not her!

...less than a month and counting the days...

(IMHO) anyone (myself included) who would risk a marriage for a motorcycle is a fool. Don't confuse "stuff" with the really important things (people).

Thats not to say you quash your spirit and strip your manhood just to serve the fears of a woman, thats to say you rescue your woman, and invite her on your adventure (whatever *your* adventure is to be). You need to do this in a way that she feels loved, excited and involved.

There is *nothing* of this earth better then a good marriage (bikes included), and few things I can think of that are worse then a bad one.

my present wife (not my first) understands my need for motorsickles (and has one hereself, did when we married)

you can always get another bike/car/shotgun/computer/job/stereo . . .

a good friend is irreplacable

that said, priorities are variable, yes?

ok, i have to clearify something, my wife and I have a wonderful relationship. when I told her I loved her as much as my bike she knew I was kidding. We got lots of laughs about it later. She knows I love messin with my bike and she understands. Alot of the time she helps me when I am working on it. She just gets in a mood every now and then. We have known each other for three years and been together two. We know each other very well and have a great realtionship. I posted this thread to see how many other wife's or significant others said the same thing. I appreaciate all the advise though. and I strongly agree with Bomber, a good friend is irreplacable

Reepi, you been reading some Eldridge? Good stuff if so, got a few things I disagree with, but on the whole some great perspective.

My bike is SOOOOOOOOO far down on the list compared to the joy of the relationship with my wife.

Oh hey Reepicheep, I'm thinking about renaming my bike after I repaint it. "Fledge"

When I got married, I told my wife I have two hobbies. Flight Sims and motorcycles. I don't go out drinking and partying and come home all hours of the night. She has never said a word to me about my bike, until I pulled up with the XB12r. "What's with the yellow windscreen?" I said it was amber. She said.. "It's yellow." Now I have the black double bubble.. .she saids.. "Now that looks nice!" I lucked out. My wife let's me ride anytime I want with no hassles and as long as I spend my money, not the family money on parts, she doesn't care what I do with the bike.

Good luck!!

I may have said that a few times...but I was the one for every bday, father's day and anniversary including recently new tires and frame sliders) have made his love for the bike even stronger!!!LOL
And now I know and understand what it's like to LOVE a bike since I have my own.

Agreed with Bomber

I should add to my last post "...I asked her if she needed help packing." (I knew she wouldn't leave.)

Five years later and just last week the same gf actually told me that if she were to ride I would have to consider the extra weight.

I think she might ride soon!

Haven't heard the "You love the bike more than me" phrase but after all she would have no one to blame but herself since I was the lucky recipient of a 2004 XB12S as my 04 fathers day/B-day present! Woo Hoo! Of course she wants to ride about twice a week but hey that still leaves me 5 days of freedom riding!

I have to park my ride in another man's garage due to the missus. She says that if she ever gets the chance she'll do it over with a tyre iron. I've asked which she'd prefer - XB or Girlfriend and the only answer I got is no sex for a week.
